    Seeking to build a brand new world-class professional games education program, the Department of Cinematic Arts invites applications for adjunct faculty to teach courses at the undergraduate levels in the following areas: Games and Interactive Media

    The successful candidate will bring a depth of knowledge about game design and development as well as a passion to convey that knowledge to a diverse collection of students within the Department of Cinematic Arts and the broader APU student community. Responsibilities include teaching courses based on specialization, although candidates who are flexible to teach in a variety of disciplines will be given preference. Examples may include tabletop games design, game engine development, 3D modeling and animation, gameplay programming, projects classes and special topics courses in the area of the candidate’s specialty. Faculty will teach courses at the undergraduate level. We are especially interested in candidates who are currently active in professional game development.

    Responsibilities **
    **

    The primary responsibility of adjunct faculty is to deliver instruction in the manner determined by the department. In addition, faculty responsibilities may include:

    • Preparation of syllabus and teaching of curriculum according to the goals and objectives of the department.
    • Student advising and office hours in relation to the course load carried, and as assigned in the faculty teaching assignment.
    • Participation in faculty meetings and departmental activities as identified by the department chair or program director, and assigned in the adjunct faculty contract.
    • Determine student mastery of material and assign final course grades from evaluation of tests, quizzes, homework, and other assignments and activities related to course material.
    • Responsible for daily electronic timekeeping as it applies to the scope of this position.

    Qualifications

    • Must have a master’s or terminal degree in the field of instruction or related area.
    • Preferred experience includes teaching at the college or university level.
    • A deep understanding of how games and play intersect with human existence.
    • Knowledge in game theory as it applies to game design.
    • Experience playing and GMing tabletop games.
    • Experience creating video games in one or more of the following capacities: production, technical writing, narrative design, puzzle design, level design, game art, 3D modeling and animation, game audio, computer programming (with an emphasis in Unity and/or UE4, VR, and mobile), console publishing.
    • Knowledge of eSports (experience preferred).
    • At least 5 years developing and shipping games professionally preferred.
    • The ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
    • A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University.

    Workload **
    **

    Assigned teaching duties will not exceed 9 units per semester; office hours and additional duties may be assigned. Total workload will not exceed 29 hours per week, nor 24 units per 12-month period.

    Compensation:

    $25.32 - $27.32/hour (Using a 3 unit full semester appointment as a pay guide). The actual hourly rate will be determined by the units, course length, experience, and rank of the candidate. Adjuncts are paid on an hourly basis which includes preparation and teaching time.
