  • Responsibilities

    Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Advancement & Alumni Engagement, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the discovery/identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of gifts to the College’s strategic planning initiatives from a portfolio of gift prospects. This will be accomplished through face-to-face visits, interaction at College events, and regular communications with College prospects using telephone, e-mail, and direct mail correspondence. More than 75% of this position’s time will be allocated to visiting with prospects in a face-to-face capacity and closing gifts for Iona’s largest-ever Comprehensive Campaign: Iona Forever.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Identification, cultivation and solicitation of a major gift portfolio of 175+ prospects
    • Attain or exceed agreed upon level of activity each month, i.e., number of face to face visits, asks, correspondence, etc.
    • Must demonstrate the ability to close major gift solicitations successfully
    • Maintain regular correspondence with existing donors and conduct initial exploratory meetings with prospects to determine inclination and capacity
    • Initiate mutually beneficial contact between members of the Iona College community and the various College academic and administrative departments
    • Maintain accurate records of alumni outreach and solicitations through donor call reports and upkeep of database

     

    Required Skills Required Experience

    • Preference will be given to those candidates who support the mission of the College, are willing to travel, have five years of related experience, and can demonstrate quantifiable success in managing a major gifts portfolio
    • Strong managerial, organizational and detail skills
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills
    • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge
    • Flexible schedule to include some travel, evening and weekend event coverage
