Marlborough’s Vision Statement: Equity Leads Education

Marlborough’s Mission Statement: Where Learning Sparks Purpose

We believe a diverse faculty is essential to the Vision and Mission of the School, for the following reasons:

    ● We instill confidence and cultivate leadership potential within each student, and serve as role models in inspiring them to pursue their personal best.

    ● We arm each graduate with the skills and motivation to create meaningful connections with people throughout the nation and across the world.

    ● We demonstrate the importance of community to our students, with teaching responsibilities that extend beyond the classroom and the curriculum.

It is our responsibility to employ a diverse group of educators who exemplify excellence in teaching and leadership, and teach by example as well as by pedagogy.

Whether in reading, writing, or speaking, the English Department’s goal is to develop these skills through the study of literature. The teachers encourage students to use language artfully and interpret it critically in order to enhance the understanding of self, others, and the world. Many different teaching styles are employed, but every English class seeks to have high levels of participation in student-centered discussions. Students are challenged as writers by investigating a variety of genres and styles, with a special emphasis—particularly in the upper grade levels—on the formal academic essay. The primary goals of instruction are consistent at every grade level—to strengthen the skills with which young people express themselves, and to enhance their ability to analyze the world around them.

The ideal candidate should possess, at minimum, a BA degree and have at least 3-5 years teaching experience working with high school or college students. The candidate should also have demonstrated expertise in the field of Asian American literature as a practicing scholar, student, or teacher.
