Position Summary Information Job Description Reports to the Director of Grant amp; Contract Development. In a customer-oriented, integrated office, the Grants Officer guides faculty and staff in all pre-award activities from identification of funding sources through submission of a proposal to negotiation, budget revision, acceptance of an award, and development of a Banner-compliant budget for disbursement in the post-award process. Duties and responsibilities include (1) matching faculty and staff to targeted funding sources; (2) editing proposals and assisting with preparation and submission, including compliance with request for proposal (RFP) guidelines; (3) presenting grant-oriented workshops to potential and existing principal investigators (PIs); (4) processing electronic proposal submissions to funding agencies; (5) providing access to and assistance in interpreting state, federal, and private funding agency guidelines; (6) assuring compliance with state and federal regulations in proposal preparation and guidelines for the protection of human and animal subjects in organized research; (7) assuring compliance with University research policies and procedures; (8) creating and maintaining grant databases; (9) preparing statistical reports; and (10) providing technical assistance for use of the Community of Science database. Performs other related duties as required. Required Qualifications Requires (1) a bachelors degree (Master degree preferred) in a relevant field; (2) a minimum of two years of general administrative experience; (3) excellent interpersonal and writing skills; (4) strong problem-solving skills; (5) ability to work with minimal supervision; (6) ability to work in an environment of short and rapidly-changing deadlines; (7) ability to build and maintain excellent professional relationships with clients, associates, and supervisors; (8) knowledge of and ability to use desktop applications such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel; (9) ability to learn and utilize other software applications and computer systems as needed; (10) ability to conduct web-based research and report results; and (11) ability to understand broad concepts while operating at a level of fine detail. Prefer/desire (1) two years professional writing and/or editing experience; (2) experience in grants administration and/or in higher education; and (3) basic to mid-level understanding of contractual funding issues. Requires satisfactory results on background check. Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
