They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of this position. All employees may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed. McMenamins Job Description: OSU Brewery Intern The OSU Brewery intern is responsible for performing all tasks related to brewery work and being part of a busy McMenamins property. That means the ideal candidate is a diligent worker with strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to be flexible and patient when dealing with front of house staff and customers. This positions responsibilities include, but are not limited to, filling and delivering property keg orders, cleaning kegs, cleaning the brewery, general cleaning, and kegging and canning beer. The Brewery intern will also be required to gain aptitude in cellar tasks like monitoring fermentation, tank cleaning and CIP, dry-hopping, cropping yeast, carbonating beer, and other critical beer-related jobs. Other duties include the completion of brewery records in a clear and organized fashion, monitoring supplies used in the brewing process, notifying brewery management when supplies are needed, and other tasks as required. This intern position must be able to work safely and be able to complete tasks with or without supervision. The Brewery Intern must develop a strong understanding of the elements that affect the production of beer such as climate control, cleanliness, sanitation, and proper storage and handling of hazardous chemicals and gases. This position is also expected to keep tools and equipment functional and well maintained, and to be able to use any devices implemented in the production of beer properly. The Brewery intern must function as a brewery representative to co-workers and the general public and work effectively as a member of a team, as well as, independently. Each employee will be expected to perform their job in a safe manner and report any safety concerns to management. All McMenamins employees will also be expected to keep current on all company events, history, and products. Other duties as assigned by the Manager on Duty. Requirements of the Job: Passion for Beer and Brewing knowledge Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to effectively work in a physical, stressful, and deadline-oriented environment Ability to have a flexible schedule including days, weekends, special events, and holidays required Attention to detail, as well as, effective prioritizing and multi-tasking skills Exhibit knowledge of basic mathematics with or without the use of a calculator (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) Essential Job Functions: Safely practice frequent heavy lifting including, but not limited, to: The ability to frequently and safely dead lift up to 170lbs, lift and carry up to 55lbs distances up to 100ft, and lift 30lbs overhead Comply with all Brewery safety procedures and policies Perform repetitive movement such as pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and stooping Perform fine hand manipulation including handling small and large objects, and use of brewery related equipment & tools Ensure all standards of brewery cleanliness Climb ladders and stairs Ability to concentrate, focus effectively, and communicate clearly Work around and with heat sources such as very hot water, boiling wort, plate heat exchangers, natural gas burners, as well as, work in brewing environment Work around and with electrical devices, such as motors, pumps, refrigeration equipment and plate/roller mills Safely handle cleaning agents and chemicals such as caustic soda, alkaline cleaners, acid cleaners, iodine and acid sanitizers, and manual cleansers Exposure to very hot liquids, grain dust and pollen, compressed gases, as well as, high pressure hose spray nozzles for hot and cold water cleaning Ability to interact well with other co-workers and customers Most importantly, this job requires a positive attitude and a commitment to excellent customer service.
