  • Responsibilities

    The Research Associate will serve as member of the research team and will assist in writing research grants, independently oversee research projects and perform near to totally independent research. He/she also will supervise, plan, design, and implement research projects; supervise and/or implement data collections and analyses requiring independent interpretation of complex research data, contribute to research so as to merit serving as author or co-author on research publications, and present research findings as needed. Additionally, he/she will mentor and train graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in developing their research projects. He/she will work with community organizations in Nashville and clinic staff and other key stakeholders as needed to carry out research projects. This position will also be responsible for monitoring research protocols and providing feedback to the PI regarding needed changes. This position works under occasional supervision. Assignments are at the specialized scientific research level requiring independent judgment.

     

    • Performs independently to oversee research project and ensure consistent valid data collection methods • Coordinate and/or engage in internal (IRB, Purchasing, etc.) and external (e.g., community partners; sponsoring agency) stakeholder communications • Supervise, mentor, plan, design, and implement research projects. • Assist PI in manuscript preparation for scientific journals and research grants. • Track project evaluation metrics-based on the project component of the evaluation plan and the compile information for progress reports, posters, and papers. • Perform specific protocol procedures such as literature searches, interviews and/or surveys, track results, and develop study materials. • Assists with preparing IRB submissions, protocol revisions, and renewals as needed, and maintains copies of all IRB communications delegated by the Principal Investigator. • Attends and participates in seminars and lectures to remain abreast of current trends and developments in related research. • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    • Thorough knowledge of cancer prevention and community engagement. • Experience with community engagement. • Must possess a good working knowledge of social marketing and/or public health. • Demonstrated ability to express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing, including ability to analyze and extract data from conversation and documents for research projects. • Ability to independently manage data collection procedures. • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally. • Ability to operate PC software and other office technology. • Possess comprehensive knowledge in research methodology (e.g., survey development, data collection and analysis along with qualitative data collection and analyses). • Organized and responsive. • Ability to utilize keen judgment in evaluating information. • Ability to numerically and accurately enter and calculate test results in an electronic database (e.g., REDCap). • Ability to work in a stressful environment. • Must be team oriented. • Accepts constructive criticisms.

    Required Experience

    • Doctorate/PhD • 2 years' experience in community engaged research • Strong knowledge of MicroSoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) • Proficient knowledge of statistical software (SAS, SPSS, STATA or R) • Database knowledge (eg REDCap)
