Physician Assistant - Temporary - COVID 19 Assessment Site
The Physician Assistant (PA) primary activity will be to perform COVID testing of patients on site at MMG clinics and in the Nashville community at COVID testing sites and with our mobile unit. The PA may also participate in quality improvement activities.
• Demonstrate clinical expertise in obtaining laboratory specimens from patients. • Completion of registration forms, laboratory requests, including asking medical history questions related to COVID-19 as listed on the registration form and perform COVID testing on Meharry campus and/or in the community at sites run by Meharry. • Participate in quality improvement, data management and contact tracing as needed. • Work with medical assistants and patient service representatives (PSR) who will be assisting with COVID testing, monitoring of inventory, and coordination of testing activities.
Required Skills
• Core Competencies: ask patients the medical questions on the COVID testing registration form. • The Clinical Assistant must be able to inform patients seen at the site to follow instructions that they are given out at the site. • Actively participate in Quality Management and Performance Improvement Programs. • Knowledge of and experience with the collection nasal swab specimens to test for COVID-19 and completion of laboratory documentation. • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient nasal swabs. • Knowledge of electronic chart documentation requirements and recording test results. • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently. • Ability to work with multiple agencies and a multidisciplinary team. • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with vulnerable and complex patients, diverse medical staff, and the public. • Ability to maintain quality control standards. • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. • Ability to operate computer and multi-function printer, general office, and telephone equipment. • Knowledge of commonly used computer software and excellent communication skills are required.
Required Experience
• Graduation from a CAHEA Accredited Physician’s Assistant Training Program is required • Experience in obtaining nasal and/or nasopharyngeal swab samples is preferred • Knowledge of Medical Spanish is preferred, but not required
