  • Responsibilities

    The Student Development Specialist serves in an active role to Meharry’s Bloomberg scholars and to all other students at Meharry by developing and organizing professional development workshops to enhance the matriculation experience at Meharry Medical College. The Student Development Specialist will manage and provide oversight to the Emotional Intelligence Program and the First Year Experience Program. Assist students with developing leadership skills, to recognize leadership behaviors, and help students to examine their thoughts and reactions to create a vison for success. The Student Development Specialist will also assist in providing directions with educational, career, personal, academic difficulty with referral to other resources and programs when necessary.

    • Develop a program to assist students with developing, evaluating, and implementing career, education and employment plans. Research theories and gain an understanding of career development and career services best practices

    • Plans workshops and events for the First Year Experience Program, the Emotional Intelligence Program and the Bloomberg Scholars Program.

    • Manages specialized programming for the Bloomberg Scholars including Emerging Leaders Series, Lunch & Learns, Alumni Speak

    • Conducts market research and adopt best practices for student support services

    • Implement and maintain best practices for student career development

    • Maintains data to support fiscal and technological resources

    • Assists in preparing for annual reporting, tracking and analysis to support the College’s strategic plan

    • Identify emotionally intelligent faculty and staff to train health care leaders

    • Develops content for web and print for student development activities

    • Manages publicity of events and workshops; develops web and social media presence for role and services provided

    • Formulate system to solicit feedback from internal and external customers;

    • Work proactively to accomplish tasks and communicate accomplishments

    • Formulate and update policies and procedures for the program

    • Assist with the development of a co-curricular program for students

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    • Demonstrated ability to consistently maintain discretion and strict confidentiality

    Required Experience

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree with five (5) years of relevant experience

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Familiarity or experience working in a college/university setting
    • Experience working with graduate students
    • Experience with social media applications, content management systems and academic processes at a health science center
    • Familiarity with hosting virtual meetings and events, including post-event tracking and reporting
