  • Responsibilities

    The Financial Aid Counselor supports the mission of the College and the Office of Student Financial Aid by ensuring the delivery of financial assistance for up to 830 enrolled students per academic year. Performs daily operations for processing financial assistance and special programs as assigned by the supervisor. Makes financial assistance awards, and decisions concerning student eligibility for assistance and other administrative services issues. Provides high quality services counseling and performs public speaking and outreach functions on an as needed basis. Reports to the Director of Financial Aid.

     

    • Advises students and parents about financial aid either in person, through email, or by phone. • Reviews and verifies student's financial aid file/status to determine eligibility. • Awards and certifies financial aid to eligible students based on office policies and procedures. Revises student financial aid awards based on need and eligibility. • Resolves financial aid issues related conflicting information, i.e. verification. Audits financial aid files, reviews financial aid reports for accuracy, and responds to financial aid inquiries. • Represents the Financial Aid Office on various programs and participates in staff development. Provides high quality aid counseling services (with no more than one justified complaint in any month) to applicants, recipients, and parents; • Provides high quality aid counseling services (with no more than one justified complaint in any month) to applicants, recipients, and parents; • Forms partnerships with clients. • Develops relationships and works closely with other service departments across campus. • Records and documents all award decisions in the Ellucian (Banner) automated financial aid system. • Performs daily operations involved with the delivery of financial assistance for perspective and enrolled students. • Assists with the development of policies and procedures. • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Experience

    • A Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience or several years of experience in the Financial Aid profession or a related field.
