    Framatome is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our IB-Services (Stearns Roger Group) at our Mill Ridge Road office in Lynchburg, Virginia. IB-Services (Stearns Roger Group) is a multi-disciplinary engineering group that provides maintenance, upgrade and design support for existing and new equipment at nuclear power facilities throughout the world.  Our group specializes in the design and maintenance of fuel handling equipment for both BWR and PWR markets to preserve the financial, safety, and environmental benefits of nuclear power, thus promoting the Framatome vision of providing access to cleaner, safer, and more economical energy to as many people as possible.  This is accomplished through the talents of a mechanical, electrical, and software engineering team.

    The candidate must have a desire to work within a product development group developing advanced, custom software and hardware solutions for use in the nuclear service industry and will integrate into a multi-discipline team of engineers including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.  Activities range from development of new designs and processes to maintenance of existing systems.

     

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    Lead hardware design and development for various projects ranging from small to large.

    Identify new applications and opportunities to improve existing processes

    Lead all aspects of the product lifecycle on assigned projects:

    • Development of technical requirements and specifications
    • Mechanical design and drawing preparation
    • Evaluating and complying with industry codes and standards (CMAA, ANSI, AWS, ASTM and occasionally ASME)
    • Formulation of acceptance criteria
    • Writing testing and validation documentation
    • Development of user manuals
    • Perform acceptance testing in accordance with acceptance criteria
    • Overseeing fabrication and construction of equipment
    • Overseeing and conducting testing and qualification of equipment
    • Support hardware maintenance in the form of improvement implementation and, at times, hands on maintenance

    Support products by on-site presence

    Ownership of project budget and scheduling

    Participate in team environment on medium to large projects.

     

     

    TRAVEL: Occasional/sporadic

    Required Skills Required Experience

    ALL CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY:

    • BS in Eng'g/Eng'g Tech. plus a minimum of 5 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of 4 yr engineering degree

     

     

    THE FOLLOWING MAY BE USED TO DIFFERENTIATE CANDIDATES WHO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION:

    • Possesses exceptional technical writing skills and mastery of the English language.
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.as well as lead others
    • Demonstrate adaptability to adapt to different development tools, as introduced.
    • Thrives in an environment that is fast paced and very much “hands on”.
    • Advanced skills in mechanical design
    • Mechanically inclined and understand how machines work and how to design them so they are functional, simple to use and service
    • Proficient with inter-disciplinary design combining mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronics, electrical, software, etc.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and precisely in oral, written, and presentation formats
    • Experienced in solid modelling software (Solidworks with SmarTeam preferred)
    • Ability to teach/mentor junior mechanical enigeers in mechanical design and use of modelling software
    • Other solid modelling experience acceptable (Microstation, Pro-Engineer, Inventor, etc.)
    • Welding, machining and fabrication experience a plus; Familiarity with these processes acceptable, but hands-on preferred.
    • Professional Engineer Certification is a plus
    • Candidate should have strong troubleshooting skills and understand mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.
    • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software for design use in a collaborative design environment
    • Electromechanical or additional courses of study in EE, BSCS, Automation or robotics is also a plus
    • Ability to lead mechanical engineering discipline on medium to large projects
    • Ability to work well with other discipline leads on cross-discipline interfaces
    • Experience in nuclear industry, outages, and with nuclear fuel handling equipment

     

     

    OUR TOTAL REWARDS PACKAGE

    The range of base salary for the position is between $91,000-$124,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
