    Job Description

    Midland University, a private, Christian, liberal-arts college in Fremont, Nebraska, (just outside of metro Omaha) is seeking an exceptional adjunct faculty member to teach LABORATORIES FOR CHE122 CHEMISTRY FOR THE HEALTH SCIENCES primarily to pre-health science majors. Courses are offered in 16-week terms. Term begins in January 2020 and ends in May 2020.

    COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    This scientific literacy course surveys the practical aspects of inorganic, organic and biochemistry as they relate to life processes. Particular attention is given to the application of chemical principles to human physiology, environmental issues and the role of scientifically literate citizens. In the laboratory, students learn scientific methodology relating chemistry to health and the environment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Prepare educational materials including laboratory objectives, lab schedule to be included in the course syllabus, experimental procedures, and lab prep sheets to be shared with the lab coordinator.
    • Working successfully and productively in a team environment with full time faculty and the Science Lab Coordinator.
    • Appropriately use the course management system, Canvas, for course contents (constantly updating grades, sharing course materials, etc.)
    • Teach the subject matter and update lab materials as appropriate for the subject.
    • Evaluate student performance in a variety of ways (lab safety, laboratory work, lab exams, and any other relevant activity) and provide timely feedback on these assessments.
    • Understanding and conveying the essentials of the course discipline that students should master.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in chemistry or a related field
    • Experience teaching laboratory at the college level is highly preferred.
