Job Responsibilities Reference/Public Services Promotes learning by assisting students, faculty and staff in locating, evaluating and accessing research information. Assists patrons in use of the online catalog, discovery service and electronic databases to include demonstration of effective search strategies. Provides general and specific reference support for library user and advises patrons on choices of resources. Answers questions related to circulation and reserves by understanding the library circulation policies and procedures. Provides reference services via walk-in, chat, or phone. Continually seek new ways to extend and improve customer service and promote service excellence. Ensures best practices in reference services. Library Instruction Prepares and delivers library instruction to promote the development of information literacy and critical thinking techniques to students to promote research skills. In addition, supports faculty, staff and students in the use of information resources and technology through various modes of instruction including individual, group, classroom, hybrid or online. Also participates in the library's embedded librarian service. Assists in identifying best practices in library instruction and creating Libguides. Serves as a back-up in scheduling library orientations in absence of Instruction Librarian. Also works with Instruction librarian to create library assessment tools to evaluate student engagement and identify best practices and trends in library instruction and follows ARCL guidelines. Collection development Participates in collection development activities to include: weeding, evaluation and selection of resources in assigned area of the collection. Professional Development Develops professional competencies to improve knowledge, skills and proficiency. Will also work with staff to create staff training opportunities. College and/or Community Service Serves the college and/or the community through participation on committees, task forces and other forums. Maintains library files for SACS accrediting purposes. Performs other professional duties and responsibilities as appropriate or requested. Minimum and Additional Requirements Master's degree in library science or in a related field such as library and information science from an ALA accredited institution. Preferred Qualifications Three years of professional library experience is preferred. Must have demonstrated a commitment to service excellence and demonstrate initiative. Must have experience with print and digital information resources, including online databases, integrated library systems (ILS) and the internet. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
