    Required Skills

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Oversee all production requirements of performances and events within the Overbrook Theater while maintaining departmental and institutional standards and goals. Responsible for production management which includes providing technical needs for all events in the theater; scheduling and maintaining of the theater and production technical calendars; monitoring the budget; hiring and training of student employees and volunteers to assist with productions and events. 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree or Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Technical Theatre required. Master’s Degree or Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theater preferred.
    2. Two or more years’ experience as a Theater Technical Director; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    3. Design experience in scenery, lighting or sound preferred.
    4. Scene shop and production management experience.
    5. Demonstrated ability to relate to people of all ages, races, and social-economic backgrounds.
    6. Demonstrated knowledge of safety standards and practices in the scene shop and on stage.
    7. Knowledge of current and new materials and equipment used in scenery, properties, lighting and sound.
    8. Knowledge of theater history and theatrical styles.
    9. Demonstrated knowledge of basic engineering skills.
    10. High proficiency in demonstration of office technology, software, & equipment. Ability and willingness to upgrade skills including technology or process changes.
    11. Hire, motivate, mentor, counsel, coach, evaluate, develop and discipline direct staff including students as appropriate with sound supportive leadership and supervisor skills.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

    1. Oversee all production requirements of performances and events within the theater.
    2. Coordinate the running and upkeep of the theater, including monitoring the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranging for the repair or replacement within budgetary constraints; perform preventive maintenance and repairs on equipment as appropriate.
    3. Manage the schedule and usage of the theater.
    4. Build or supervise building of all scenery and properties for productions.
    5. Coordinate the purchase of materials for scenery, this may include researching vendors, creating budget estimates, purchasing materials that are cost effective and delivered in a timely manner.
    6. Oversee the setup, operation, and strike of equipment as required for events.
    7. Supervise the timely restore of the theater after productions or events.
    8. Prepare and communicate the technical production calendar.
    9. Advise on the technical specifications, costs, and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show, and supervise the implementations of approved technical designs.
    10. Assist with the preparation of production and budgeting.
    11. Research and make recommendations regarding capital purchases of technical equipment.
    12. Attend all production or event meetings.
    13. Supervise all scene shop production work.
    14. Coordinate all stage management and technical elements in rehearsal and performances.
    15. Prepare annual inventory of tools and supplies.
    16. Manage the schedule within the budgeted hours for technical theater student employees.
    17. Maintain safe and proper usage of all equipment.
    18. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized condition in all areas of the theater at all times.
    19. Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities.
