SHIFTS: TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY 7P-7A
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
To establish guidelines for the nursing assistant as a part of the nursing team, to assist and provide quality of care to the patients of the facility. The nursing assistant will provide supportive nursing care to meet the needs of individual patients.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The nursing assistant performs technical skills that incorporate the patient’s plan of care and provides comfort measures that are given to the patients.
- Assists with admissions, transfers within the facility and discharge.
- Assists patients with requests from other services such as dietary.
- Will provide assistance to the patients with activities and care as directed by the department manager.
- Accurately record such activities such as intake and output, collection of specimens. Empties Foley drainage bag each shift.
- Administer enemas, sitz baths alcohol sponges, and records the results and patient’s response.
- Prepares and chaperones patients during examinations, procedures and treatments.
- Assists with patient procedures and treatments as needed.
- Applies hot and cold compress treatments.
- The nursing assistant will give skin care, and a timed position change to ensure that circulation is not impeded and to prevent pressure sores.
- Maintains the patient’s privacy and confidentiality.
- Provides a clean and safe environment.
- Ensure that proper aseptic technique and infection control measures are followed.
- Observes and follows policies and procedures set forth by the facility.
- Transports requisitions or specimens to the appropriate department.
- Assists personal care such as baths, weighing, linen/bed changes and feeding the patient if required.
- Recognized patient care priorities and communicates the patient’s needs to the appropriate staff.
- Assists in ordering supplies, checking outdates and verifies changes or charges as directed by the department manager.
- Performs all other duties as requested or required.
- Assists patients to the car at discharge
- Performs and records Vital Signs on admission and as required.
- Communicates all patient care needs to nursing staff in a timely manner.

Required Skills
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION:
- BCLS, if not current, certification within 90 days of hire (provided by OCOM).
Required Experience
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Requires a high school certificate or equivalency.
- Previous experience as a nursing assistant preferred.

Candidate must be able to read and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, computer skills, and communication skills to deal well with the public (customers) as well as peers. Position exerts up to 50lb. of force occasionally and/or up to 20lb. of force frequently and/or up to 10lb, of force consistently to move object. Requires pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, stooping, and finger dexterity. There is potential for exposure to blood and body fluids (high), and exposure to infectious disease.
