    The Department of Biostatistics at the Boston University School of Public Health is excited to announce a new Research Assistant faculty position to start in Spring or Summer 2022 to develop and implement advanced, innovative statistical approaches for analysis of genetics and genomics data with a focus on complex disease. We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience with methods and analysis of big data, especially genetics and genomics datasets.

    The Department of Biostatistics is comprised of 30 faculty, who are internationally recognized for their innovation in research and scholarship in a diverse range of areas of biostatistics including statistical genetics, clinical trials, surveillance, longitudinal studies, Bayesian statistics and risk prediction. Biostatistics faculty play leading roles in several large observational studies with genetic data such as the renowned Framingham Heart Study, and the Black Women's Health Study. Their work has contributed new knowledge in the fields of cardiovascular disease, dementia and Alzheimer's disease, osteoporosis and arthritis, nutrition, healthy aging and extreme longevity. Many of these findings have been effectively translated into current clinical practice.

     

    The department has a large and successful graduate program (PhD and MS in Biostatistics), an MS in Applied Biostatistics, and a Summer Institute in Biostatistics (SIBS) for undergraduates.

    Required Skills

     

    Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in statistics, biostatistics, human genetics, data science, or bioinformatics, with strong computing skills. Successful applicants are highly motivated, dependable, have a demonstrated research record, the ability to conduct efficient and reproducible analyses, have excellent communication and writing skills, and a strong desire to work in a team setting. Strong programming skills are required in R and/or SAS. Additional background with high-level programming languages such as Python, and experience with Linux cluster computing environment is strongly preferred. Successful applicants will participate actively both in collaborative research projects and applied methodological research in the area of genetics and genomics of blood lipid levels, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease. The position also has potential for teaching opportunities for interested applicants.
