    Job Description

    Position Summary:

    Under limited supervision, collaborate in the creation of innovative and engaging online courses. Applies current instructional design methodologies, develop guidelines for consulting with lead faculty and curriculum specialists on online course curriculum. Partner with team members to administer project management processes, resources, project documents and other related materials. Employ instructional design and usability best practices into the development of online content.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Makes recommendations for enhancements and/or revisions of course materials, delivery methods, and instructional practices.
    • Conducts initial needs assessment and content analysis as part of the collaboration with the National University (NU) Faculty and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Authors original content and modifies existing materials in partnership with SMEs.
    • Creates design documents (course outlines, storyboards, design mockups, etc.) to guide course development process. Designs successful assessments and evaluation methods. Presents documentation for evaluation decisions.
    • Plans, conceptualizes, and organizes multimedia and design projects, e.g. storyboard engaging and interactive multimedia ideas. Designs and provides recommendations for custom multimedia activities and other engaging course elements. Conducts training and coaching on best practices for online course design.
    • Collaborates with Project Management and Course Design team on project timelines and documentation.
    • Acts as an eLearning consultant to Project Managers in discovery meetings that pertain to course design and development. Consults and contributes on new innovative products to facilitate the growth of educational initiatives. Facilitates in incorporating digital media elements in the eLearning platform.
    • Evaluates course materials to ensure that online course curriculum is consistent with requirements as specified by SMEs.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field, required; and three (3) to four (4) years relevant experience in designing courses in a corporate, educational or freelance environment, required; to include:
      • Two (2) years in a higher education setting working in instruction, leadership, curriculum development, research and assessment and online pedagogy, strongly preferred; and,
      • One (1) to four (4) years with one of the following: online course creation within hosting platforms e.g. Angel, Blackboard, eCollege, or Moodle or online learning or training and development; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Certification in Project Management at a minimum 6 months demonstrated experience, a plus.

    • Demonstrated ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional staff in the development of eLearning materials.
    • Advanced use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and advanced knowledge of software programs related to curriculum development e.g. Adobe Captivate, Adobe Presenter and Articulate Storyline and audio capture eLearning software, along with strong knowledge of internet terms, technologies and protocols.
    • Must have strong organizational skills with great attention to detail, follow-up and follow-through, as well as, the ability to organize a substantial number of tasks under time constraints.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individual of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures, while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and frequently changing priorities.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT:

    Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures and viewing a computer terminal and requires color vision and depth perception. The work is performed in an office environment and outside the office as necessary
