  • Responsibilities

    Being a Network Administrator at summer tech camp means representing Emagination and our mission to educate, entertain and help develop healthy kids.

    General:

    • Commit -- Live on campus with campers for the entire summer (7-9 weeks, depending on location)
    • Teach -- Technology in the classroom and life-skills outside of the classroom. Curriculum & training provided.
    • Mentor -- Build confidence, knowledge, responsibility and social adeptness in kids and teens.
    • Play -- Dress up, lead games, sing songs, and help make Emagination the destination for “Kids Like Me!”
    • Collaborate -- Work together and support your team by going above and beyond

    Prior to Arrival at Camp:

    • Skype with Corporate Technology Officer (CTO) to discuss the process of the campus network setup including: LAN/VLAN network configuration with the host campus, setup up of administrative workstations and camp servers, setup of the VPN to the Emagination corporate server, and network access and security

    Pre-Camp Set Up:

    • Setup of the Camp Office including Administrator Workstations, Camp Server and corporate communication
    • Setup of computer labs based on supplied schematic
    • Receive, track, setup and return all rental computers, equipment and accessories
    • Install network appliances and printers on the LAN according to schedule, ensuring that cables and stations are labeled and documented for future reference
    • Configure, maintain and manage network security features
    • Participate in training with the CTO on use of our proprietary database and other programs used at Emagination

    During Camp Sessions:

    • Coordinate and/or oversee activities related to camp data networks
    • Setup and administer Local Minecraft Servers each session
    • Coordinate Emagination's 3D Print Services including print server and printer and oversee the print schedule for the 3D Printing workshop
    • Ensure daily backups of all systems and safe management of media in accordance with disaster recovery plan
    • Perform daily inventory checks to ensure that all equipment is present and functional
    • Perform file maintenance on user files located on the server
    • Daily backup and archive of camper work
    • Configure, monitor, and maintain anti-virus programs
    • Notify CTO and Camp Director when equipment needs to be repaired, keep records of such activities
    • Note and track any equipment that is added, returned or replaced
    • Perform diagnostics and maintenance on network or workstations as needed
    • Track and distribute workshop inventory each session
    • Set-up a per session LAN party
    • Teach up to 3 technology workshops per session, depending on camp location and network size
    • Lead recreation, outdoor games, camper groups and other program activities

    Camp Breakdown:

    • Back up camper work and give hard drive to Camp Director
    • Organize and oversee the break-down of the network
    • Track the pick-up of rental computers and ensure that all equipment is returned and any damages or lost items are listed in detail and reported to CTO
    • Inventory non-rental network equipment, tools and workshop supplies and pack for shipment

  • Qualifications

    Network Administrators set up and maintain mission critical networks, but are also fun and engaging leaders who meet the following requirements:

    • Network Administrators must have experience in information technology, network administration or a related field
    • Knowledge of a client/server environment with emphasis in Microsoft operating systems (Win 10, Windows Server), Ubuntu & Mac OSX.
    • Competency to set up, maintain and administer a small to medium scale computer network (65-125 clients) including set up of server, router, switch and cabling (knowledge and proficiency in cable construction and testing of UTP/RJ45 is a plus).
    • Knowledge of configuring a firewall with selective user policies, DNS server, DHCP server and VPN using PPTP/IPSEC
    • Knowledge of VLAN technology and architecture
    • Knowledge of drive imaging software
    • Prior experience working with children, preferably in a summer camp environment
    • Desire to lead games, songs, classes, and other activities with groups of children
    • Ability to teach one or more of our technology based workshops

With our core Computer Camp program offering 26 tech workshops, plus two specialty programs for teens – one in game design and one in programming with C# -- we offer a great opportunity for kids and teens to learn, develop and have fun. Our day and overnight camp programs balance technology learning with outdoor and social activities that give campers a chance to develop 21st century life-skills in a community with others that share their passions.
