    TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN SPECIALIST (LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT)

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Specialist, Learning and Development is focused on the design, development, delivery, and assessment of training. This position reports to the Director, Learning and Development and closely collaborates with functions within Organizational Effectiveness to design programs to support the cultural and operational strategies of the College. We are looking for someone with experience in instructional design and delivery, and a track record of successful collaboration with subject matter experts to design impactful solutions. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    • Assesses training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and communication with College leadership.  
    • Designs and executes onboarding and training programs using various forms and formats including synchronous and asynchronous delivery and utilizing best practices from adult learning theory, in partnership with internal and external Subject Matter experts 
    • Creates and/or acquires training procedure manuals, guides, and course materials.  
    • Determines the suitable instructional design method, media selection, and facilitation style for the implementation of organizational interventions and solutions 
    • Aligns new and existing training and development content with optimum instructional methods including instructor-led, e-learning, and blended approaches 
    • Maintains records of training and development activities, attendance, results of tests and assessments, and retraining requirements.  
    • Evaluates program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback.  
    • Maintains knowledge of the latest trends in training and development.  
    • Performs other related duties as required.   
    • Develops and maintains various tools/interventions to support learning retention.

      

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's degree in related field (e.g. Educational Technology, Training and Development, Instructional Design, etc.), or equivalent experience.  
    • 2+ years of experience in related field.  
    • Experience creating and measuring the impact of capability-building programs and interventions across multiple delivery platforms.  
    • Experience in instructional design and adult learning theory.  
    • Expertise in various authoring tools and eLearning platforms (in Canvas a plus).  
    • Some travel required.
