    The Mike Curb College of Music, Entertainment and Art is seeking an adjunct candidate to teach applied guitar in both the one-on-one and classroom settings and direct a guitar ensemble within this dynamic and robust music department. Other teaching assignments could include directing a contemporary style, big band jazz ensemble, and jazz combo, music appreciation, an American popular music survey course and jazz improvisation. Additional teaching assignments would be dependent on the candidate’s qualifications and departmental needs.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in music required with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in music.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

     

    • Teach courses in accordance with college and departmental policies and procedures, as well as Basic Course  Information sheets.
    • Prepare and submit timely grade reports and other reports on student performance as may be scheduled or required.
    • Organize class activities and assignments, relating them to the overall student learning outcomes of the course.
    • Provide input and work with other faculty and staff to review, produce and/ or select course-related materials.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

     

    • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and of effective instruction.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students.
    • Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
    • Computer literate and able to navigate in a Windows environment.

  • Qualifications
    • Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents. Ordinarily, such education is obtained at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.  Work adheres to specific procedures, but the employee in this position determines priorities and organizes work. The employee normally performs the assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making decisions among a few easily identifiable choices.  The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion for approval.  

    • Work requires frequent and regular contact with others in a direct reporting relationship and may involve contact with others outside of the direct reporting relationship. The purpose of the contact is to address specific issues and/or general policies. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues. 

    • Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the Agency.
