Purpose of Position To provide academic advising to mostly first year, undecided/exploring, under-prepared and probationary students. May be assigned to assist in advising students from various colleges on campus, special populations, such as Pathfinders or Chase Law 3 + 3 students, or other caseload(s) as assigned. Primary Responsibilities Primary responsibilities include providing academic advising to new freshmen, undecided/exploring, under-prepared students and probationary students at Northern Kentucky University. Focus on improving student access, completion, and career engagement to promote student success. Other responsibilities include providing intrusive follow-up with at risk students by effectively managing advising caseloads, assisting with the planning and delivery of academic orientation programs, creating and providing presentations for students and other professionals on campus, implementing the offices assessment plan for teaching advising student learning outcomes and maintaining accurate and up-to-date student records. Participation in university-sponsored professional development programs, the National Academic Advising Association and the Kentucky Academic Advising Association is encouraged. Serve on university committees as assigned by the director. Qualifications Bachelors degree with a minimum of two years academic advising experience in a higher education setting. Preferred qualifications are a masters degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Communication, Education, or other academic discipline with experience in academic advising. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to articulate an understanding of student development theory, experience working with diverse and underrepresented student populations, especially at-risk and undecided/exploring students. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills are required. Ability to work with diverse populations, strong teamwork skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks are also required.
