We have a unique and exciting opportunity for an apprenticeship program in our machine shop for a Fabricator. You would be working in our very well-kept and climate controlled 5000 sq. ft. prototype machine shop located in Sorrento Valley. In our shop you'd be programming mostly one-off parts from basic designs to complex assemblies with some small production runs. Key Responsibilities: * Primarily work on welding surgical instrumentation for prototypes and customs/specials * Perform basic machining on manual mills and lathes * Cut raw materials and assist in the daily maintenance of the shop * Work on assembling, blending, de-burring and troubleshooting of complex assemblies and works with engineers on manufacturability * Design and build fixtures to aide in the fabrication and rework of complex instruments * Verify conformance of finished work-piece to specifications using various measuring tools such as: calipers, micrometers, depth micrometers * Maintain organization and cleanliness, housekeeping and should maintain these areas at the highest degree possible and report any maintenance issues, and handle preventative maintenance * Drive quality compliance using line clearance requirements, good document practices and workmanship standards * Confer with engineering, quality control, programming, or shareowners to resolve machining problems * Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with all levels of the organization Basic Qualifications * Desire to learn and be cross trained and ability to take on new projects

    • Ability and willingness to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds * Proficiency with Microsoft programs, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel, as well as competency in navigating the Internet * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and provide constructive feedback regarding manufacturability back to design engineers * Sense of urgency in order to do trouble shooting and problem-solving with alarms/programs * Work with a team to build and sustain a clean and safe work environment * Strong ability to stay on task and ensure current day scheduled work is completed on time * Follow all safety rules, report all accidents and unsafe conditions and wear all personal protective equipment * High school diploma or GED * Knowledge of welding techniques, or vocational training in welding practices * Familiarity with metal working machines and proper operation of them * Experience with laser welding and GTAW welding * Attendance and punctuality are required * Ability to understand, program and set-up basic to difficult programs Preferred Qualifications * Experience with laser welding * Knowledge of gages, calipers, and micrometers * Experience in medical device manufacturing * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, company policy and procedure manuals. * Ability to write business correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and management of organization * Ability to calculate figures using basic arithmetic, geometry and trigonometry NuVasive is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
