  • Responsibilities

    The Podcast Producer will produce podcasts for WBUR. This will include writing, editing and skillfully crafting podcast episodes. They will be responsible for helping develop podcasts and assist in the distribution and marketing of podcasts. The Podcast Producer will also work closely with podcast hosts and guests and unit managers. This role will liaise as appropriate with WBUR departments such as Marketing, Digital, Social Media, Sponsorship, Newsroom, etc.

     

    Essential Functions:

    • Manage the production of podcasts for WBUR, including booking, writing, editing and skillfully crafting podcast episodes according to WBURs high standards for journalism. Assist in the distribution and marketing of podcasts and collaborate with podcast hosts and guests to obtain the desired presentation of podcast subjects. Liaise as appropriate with WBUR departments such as Marketing and Digital to ensure optimum publicity via traditional methods and social media.
    • Prepare for upcoming podcast shows: determine the content of upcoming podcasts and helps shape the conversation for these programs. Once this is established, the producer must then find the appropriate guests, music and sound bites. This requires sophisticated editorial judgment as well as understanding the qualities of good audio.
    • Preparing hosts: prepare the podcast host(s) for upcoming programs by ensuring that they’re fully versed on the topic and fully prepared for recording sessions. Must have a keen understanding of the content and a clear vision of how the podcast topic should be executed, as well as strong research skills.
    • Preparing guests: Ensure that all guests who participate in podcasts sessions are familiar with the format as well as how the recording session will be conducted. Address the varying styles of contributors, the technology needed to execute the interview itself, as well as the content to ensure that the guests offer their best material to the podcast recording session.
    • Work in concert with WBUR Marketing Department and social media staff to design and implement marketing campaigns.
    • Work with multiple departments around WBUR to ensure a robust digital presence for podcasts on an as-needed basis, including posting on the organizations content management system, creating and posting social media presence on various platforms--all while adhering to the organizations standards for public-facing content.

    • Candidates must have experience with sophisticated audio production and familiarity with public radio.
    • Candidates must have journalistic experience and exercise sound editorial judgment and strategic decision-making.
    • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience required
    • At least three years of related work experience required
