Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the District Investigator is to investigate families that seek to establish residency or guardianship status within the Oak Park and River Forest High School attendance areas. The District Investigator is also responsible for providing documentation of the investigations and written reports to the Registrar/Residency Coordinator, Assistant Principal for Student Health and Safety, Principal, Superintendent and Board of Education. The District Investigator will attend and give testimony at both internal and external residency hearings as necessary. Job Functions: 1. Conduct thorough investigations related to the verification of family residency through the use of techniques such as surveillance, conducting home visitations as appropriate, verifying residency with landlords, verifying home ownership and leases along with using public data bases and records. 2. Prepare detailed residency reports for the school administration and Board of education that outline the details of the residency/guardianship investigation. 3. Meet with parent/guardians and school administrators regarding residency and/or guardianship. 4. Work closely with the Registrar/Residency Coordinator and other District administrators to identify potential residency/guardianship investigations and respond to and document other sources of residency information from school staff, parents, students and anonymous sources. 5. Maintain office hours in the school for the purpose of meeting with parents/guardians and school staff; make necessary phone calls and public data base queries. 6. Knowledge of the Illinois School Code pertaining to residency, as well as knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Act (Homeless Act). 7. Other appropriate duties as needed in conducting residency investigations. Physical/Visual Demands: Physical and visual demands of the position are consistent with standard office conditions.
