Library Assistant (Evenings Sunday - Thursday) Job Details Level Entry Job Location Oglethorpe University - Atlanta, GA Position Type Full Time Education Level High School Job Category Education Description Reporting to the Director of the Philip Weltner Library, the Evening and Sunday Library Assistant functions as one of a team of library professionals directly responsible for ensuring the needs of students, faculty and staff members, and alumni are met and expectations are exceeded. This position is a ten-month employee, working August 1 through May 1. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Supervise circulation operations evenings and Sundays. 2. Work at the circulation desk assisting patrons with circulation and other public service questions, answers questions related to the use of library catalogs, and the use of specialized indexes, abstracts and other reference tools; refer users to daytime scheduled reference service for more complex questions. 3. Supervise evening and Sunday student employees to ensure smooth, efficient work flow of public services, including charging, renewing, and discharging library materials. 4. Assist in hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, and evaluating student employees. 5. Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating circulation procedures. 6. Use OCLC WorldShare to perform all tasks associated with Interlibrary Loan. 7. Perform and manage others in doing all aspects of stack maintenance to ensure timely shelving, reshelving, and maintenance of the stacks through regular shelf straightening, cleaning, shifting, and other quality control measures as needed. Qualifications Qualified applicant must possess at least a high-school diploma or GED and 1-3 yearsâ?? experience working in a library (academic library preferred). Must be familiar with all Microsoft Office programs. Preferred experience with OCLC WorldShare or other Interlibrary Loan software. Must be customer service oriented and aware of the needs and concerns of patrons at a small, academic library. Must be able to work a Sunday-Thursday 1:30-10:00 PM schedule. About the Philip Weltner Library The Philip Weltner Library serves as the academic heart of the University. Serving students, faculty and staff members, and alumni, the dedicated staff offer assistance in multiple formats over different platforms. Physically, the Library houses about 250,000 books with an additional 300,000 available electronically. In addition, over 300 databases provide access to hundreds of thousands of journals and scholarly sources. Also, the Library houses the University Archives and Special Collections. Often the Library partners with other campus departments for outreach services to patrons.
