Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice/Acting
TEACHING, SCHOLARSHIP, AND SERVICE REQUIREMENTS
The School of Theatre at Oklahoma City University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice/Acting. This position functions as part of the professional artistic community focused on teaching intermediate-acting (Acting III), as well as numerous other classes in the voice curriculum including The Actor’s Instrument I and II, Vocal Production I and II, and/or possibly Dialects. This is a nine-month appointment.
Along with their ability to teach the required voice and acting courses, the ideal candidate would also be a member of one of the pertinent professional unions (AEA, SAG/AFTRA). Applicants should be student-centered and able to train and supervise students in the basics of the Stanislavski system. The successful applicant will be asked to serve as a dialect/vocal coach on productions.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in the School's assessment program, and in student recruiting and retention efforts for the School and University. Additional information about the school can be found at http://www.okcu.edu/theatre.
QUALIFICATIONS
An MFA or equivalent professional experience is required. A minimum of three (3) years of
professional acting and/or directing experience and a minimum of two (2) years of university-level teaching experience is also required.
The ability to teach intro to vocal production and/or dialects is considered advantageous. Union membership(s), recent professional acting, and/or directing work is expected. The ability to direct and/or coach for the School of Theatre Season is highly desirable.
PROMOTION AND TENURE
Effective teaching, scholarship, and service are required for promotion and tenure. Additional requirements are established by each school and college and defined in the School of Theatre’s Procedures for Renewal, Promotion, and Tenure Appendix to the OCU Faculty Handbook.
SCHOOL OF THEATRE
The School of Theatre offers an active production-based BFA program and is a part of the Margaret E. Petree College of Performing Arts which includes the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management and the Wanda L. Bass School of Music.
We offer a BFA in Acting, BFA in Design and Production, and a BA in Theatre and Performance in a program that is gaining a national reputation and has grown to a steady population of over 200 majors. TheatreOCU is the School of Theatre’s producing arm, typically mounting four main stage, and seven or eight laboratory productions each season.
