Olam Spices is headquartered in Fresno, CA and represents approximately 25% of the total global portfolio. Primary products include dried onions and garlic, capsicums, tomatoes and purees, and tropical spices (black pepper, paprika, chili pepper, cumin, coriander, turmeric, etc.). These are sourced and processed in the U.S. as well as 14 other countries including Egypt, Vietnam, India, Brazil, Mexico, and China. The Internship Program The Internship Program for Olam Spices is designed to provide exceptional students with a unique opportunity to learn about the diverse business operations of a Global Agribusiness Company. Those candidates selected for the Program will gain invaluable work experience through challenging project assignments, information sessions hosted by Olam senior management, and the opportunities to work with skilled agribusiness leaders of the company throughout the San Joaquin Valley. The sustainability internship is designed to give an individual an inside view of the knowledge and skills required to become a sustainability professional in the agriculture industry. You will participate as an active member of the sustainability team and have responsibility for high visibility assignments will focus on providing opportunities to build skills in several of the following competencies: project management and planning, data analysis, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability research and policy, communications, marketing and customer relations, field operations, and food processing and supply chain. Position Summary: The Sustainability Intern is responsible for providing support to Olam Spices sustainability responsibilities including but not limited to: grower relations, manufacturing operations, customer relations/sales, stakeholder engagement, external sustainability reporting, etc. The candidate will directly support the Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Manager whilst also interfacing directly with leadership and team members from the Manufacturing, Agricultural Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, HR, and Marketing departments. Position Responsibilities: Sustainability Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting (40%) -- Work with various departments to collect key sustainability metrics and indicators (social, environmental, and economic) as well as impact stories for various product lines, facilities, and geographies. Support development of inputs to the Olam Annual Report. * Assist the Sustainability Manager in gathering and validating data for the Olam AtSource sustainability platform. Verify data in the platform for accuracy once it has been uploaded. * Gather quantitative data and impact stories from the agricultural operations, manufacturing, and logistics/supply chain departments to support required inputs for the Olam Annual Report. * Work with the agricultural operations team to document underlying assumptions and standard methods for completing the annual Unilever certification. * Review existing data and customer surveys and certifications to conduct a gap analysis to assist in the development of customized metrics to include for each supply chain in the AtSource platform. Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Communications (30%) * Gather and edit updates on sustainability initiatives from across Olam Spices supply chains and in key origins (Egypt, Vietnam, India, Brazil, Peru) to support the development of * Monthly Growing Responsibly sustainability newsletter * Complete the existing Sustainability marketing deck * Sustainability one-pagers based on stories already run and new data and stories gathered from across Olam Spices origins * Develop interview questionnaires and accompany CRS manager on interviews of growers, processing plant employees, and other suppliers to support the Faces in the Field and Women in Ag video series. * Social Media support: Create LinkedIn posts for the sustainability manager and help draft blogs on key sustainability topics * Assist in the development of briefings to key global customers Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Program Initiatives (20%) * Provide support to the CR&S Manager on key sustainability initiatives through assistance in event organization, communications, scheduling, etc. * Participate and take notes, and develop short summaries of meetings with key stakeholders (NGOs, growers, internal staff mtgs., and site visits) Requirements: All applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration in the Program: * Must have completed aminimum of two years in an accredited four-year college degree program or have completed at least one year of post-graduate educationin: Business, Sustainability, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field. * Strong preference will be given to graduate students with prior work experience * Excellent academic standing * Proficiency with: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project * Reliable transportation Qualifications/ Experience/ Skills: * Advanced data gathering, analysis, and data visualization skills * Excellent writing skills * Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills * Strong attention to detail * Ability to work independently with strong sense of urgency and ownership as well as excellent ability to work well in a team * Strong organizational skills * Ability to build trusted relationships at all levels * Familiarity with agribusiness, sustainable development, and farm management * Experience in Agriculture, Food Processing, NGO's, Customer Relations, etc. a plus Olam provides equality of opportunity for all persons with respect to hiring without discrimination on the grounds of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, pregnancy, age, disability, veteran status or sexual orientation.
