    Sustainability Intern * Fresno, CA * Internship * Student (College) OLAM international is a leading agri-business operating from seed to shelf in 70 countries, supplying food and industrial raw materials to over 23,000 customers worldwide. OLAM Spices and Vegetable Ingredients (SVI) represents approximately 25% of the total global portfolio with primary products including dried onions and garlic, capsicums, tomatoes and purees, and tropical spices (black pepper, paprika, chili pepper, cumin, coriander, turmeric, etc.,) Position Summary: The Sustainability Intern is responsible for providing support to Olam SVIs sustainability initiatives including but not limited to: grower relations, manufacturing operations, customer relations, stakeholder engagement, external sustainability reporting, etc. The candidate will directly support the Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Manager whilst also interfacing directly with leadership and team members from the Manufacturing, Agricultural Operations, Supply Chain, and Communications departments. This is a paid internship and will be compensated $12-$13/hr. Position Responsibilities: Sustainability Data Architecture and System Development (40%) - Assist in the development of a data collection system and dashboard that will aggregate and track key sustainability metrics and indicators (social, environmental, and economic) for various product lines, facilities, and geographies * Gather and organize existing data from reporting initiatives and certifications and internal systems and sources * Review existing data against reporting and communications needs (Olam AtSource Sustainability platform, customer surveys, audit requirements, and internal reporting needs) to conduct gap analyses and work with Sustainability Manager to develop data collection plan to address gaps (e.g. grower surveys, monthly data reporting calls, etc.) * Interface with the agricultural operations, manufacturing, and logistics/supply chain departments to gather quantitative data to include understanding and thoroughly documenting key underlying assumptions and methods used to calculate metrics * Research and make recommendations on external software systems and/or work with internal digitization department and marketing manager to produce regular dashboard views and other reports to both internal stakeholders as well as key customers and stakeholders. Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Communications (30%) * Work with the CR&S Manager and Marketing/Communications Manager to develop and distribute monthly CR&S newsletter that will be both internal and external facing to communicate sustainability initiatives and progress for Olam SVI / North America * Integrate data from Sustainability System / Dashboard to create appealing visuals to communicate progress against targets * Gather and edit updates on sustainability initiatives from across SVI supply chains and in key origins (Egypt, Vietnam, India, Brazil, Peru) * Develop interview questionnaires and accompany CRS manager on interviews of growers, processing plant employees, and other suppliers * Draft short articles and updates * Assist in the development of briefings to key global customers Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Program Initiatives (20%) * Provide support to the CR&S Manager on key sustainability initiatives through assistance in event organization, communications, scheduling, etc. * Participate and take notes, and develop short summaries of meetings with key stakeholders (NGOs, growers, internal staff mtgs., and site visits) Requirements: All applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration in the Program: * Must have completed a minimum of two years in an accredited four-year college degree program or have completed at least one year of post-graduate education in: Business, Sustainability, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field. * Strong preference will be given to graduate students with prior work experience * Excellent academic standing * Proficiency with: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project * Reliable transportation Qualifications/ Experience/ Skills: * Advanced data gathering, analysis, and data visualization skills * Outstanding organizational skills * Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills * Strong attention to detail * Ability to work independently with strong sense of urgency and ownership as well as excellent ability to work well in a team * Ability to build trusted relationships at all levels * Familiarity with agribusiness, sustainable development, and farm management * Experience in Agriculture, Food Processing, NGOs, Customer Relations, etc. a plus Additional Information The Internship Program for Olam Spices & Vegetable Ingredients is designed to provide exceptional students with a unique opportunity to learn about the diverse business operations of a Global Agribusiness Company. Those candidates selected for the Program will gain invaluable work experience through challenging project assignments, information sessions hosted by Olam senior management, and the opportunities to work with skilled agribusiness leaders of the company throughout the San Joaquin Valley. The Program requires a minimum commitment of 12 weeks. The sustainability internship is designed to give an individual an inside view of the knowledge and skills required to become a sustainability professional in the agriculture industry. You will participate as an active member of the sustainability team and have responsibility for high visibility assignments will focus on providing opportunities to build skills in several of the following competencies: project management and planning, data analysis, monitoring and evaluation, sustainability research and policy, communications, marketing and customer relations, field operations, and food processing and supply chain.
