    FINANCE SPECIALIST 

    Department: Finance 

    Job Status: Full-Time 

    Reports To: CFO & COO 

    Job Type: Regular 

    Positions Supervised: None 

    FLSA Status: Exempt 

    Amount of Travel: 25% 

    Work Schedule: M-F 9am-5pm, Occasional evenings and weekends   

    POSITION SUMMARY 

    Under the direction of the CFO & COO, the Finance Specialist is responsible for preparing and reconciling financial statements, analyzing accounting processes and closing the books after yearly audits are complete.

    Essential Functions Statement(s): 

    1. Financial Management:

     

    • Ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all financial functions 

    • Oversees all financial record and reporting systems to ensure compliance with GAAP standards 

    • Builds and maintains relationships with key finance partners 

    • Develops and maintains appropriate financial controls and procedures 

    • Prepares annual budget 

    • Oversees cash flow planning 

    • Prepares and presents monthly financial statement to the CFO 

    • Reviews borrowing needs and establishes debt programs 

    • Establishes and maintains depositary arrangements and cash management with eligible banking institutions 

    • Develops and maintains financial accountability for all grant budgets 

    • Recommends approval to the CFO for authorization of all contracts and agreements 

    • Maintains appropriate audit record files, prepares audit forms A-133 and 990 and works cooperatively with auditors 

    • Upholds applicable local, state, and federal laws 

    • Updates and implements all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improves the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual 

    • Prepares corporate financial statements in a timely fashion. 

    • Conducts periodic audits of budget items, including comparing per diems to actual expenses and other budget-to-actual comparisons 

    • Provides relevant financial information to Leadership Team 

    • Maintains corporate checking accounts and invoices 

    • Responsible for the various ledgers including cash disbursements, cash receipts, accounts payable, month-end payroll summary, accounts receivable summary, and journal entries to adjust the general ledger 

    • Generates monthly reports including accounts payable reconciliation, accounts receivable reconciliation, cash flow report, and balance sheet audits 

    • Attends the finance committee meetings. 

    • Provides value added input to the development of a successful financial strategy for the organization that supports the organization’s overall mission and strategy 

    • Performs other related duties as requested by the CFO or CEO

     

     

    1. Administrative Responsibilities:

     

    • Facilitates accurate and timely delivery of employer contributions and employee payroll deductions to carriers, plan administrators, or other appropriate service providers 

    • Completes records, reporting, and other documentation required by federal, state, and provider rules, regulations, and policies 

    • Monitors administrators and insurance carriers reports to ensure the organizations compliance with plan requirements 

    • Processes Payroll

    SKILLS & ABILITIES 

    Education:   

    • Minimum of a BA, ideally with an MBA/CPA or related degree

     

    Experience:  

    • 3 plus years of experience in a finance accounting role

      

    Technical Skills:   

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 

    • Proficient in QuickBooks 

    • Strong Organizational Skills 

    • Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with -programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds 

    • Technology savvy with experience managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software 

    • A multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a fast-paced environment 

    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
