Our phlebotomy lab is staffed by skilled pediatric phlebotomists who have special training in caring for children of all ages and circumstances. Our lab is designed with children in mind and we pride ourselves on our anxiety-free environment. The lab features child-friendly attributes, including purple and orange child-sized draw chairs and Winnie the Pooh characters on the walls. After each draw we give the child a toy of his or her choice. This helps a child overcome the negative emotion of the draw and brings positive thoughts to coming to the lab. https://www.ohsu.edu/xd/health/services/doernbecher/programs-services/pediatric-lab.cfm Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range * FTE: 1.0, Full Time * Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00am 4:30pm * Salary Range: $17.25 $21.81 per hour * Location: Portland, OR (Marquam Hill) * Job Type: Union Represented (AFSCME) Functions/Duties of Position The Pediatric Phlebotomy Laboratory at Doernbecher Childrens Hospital provides compassionate and efficient care to individuals, families, communities, and patient populations. Positioned as a walk-in service that operates Monday through Friday, the phlebotomy lab can service between 50-70 patients daily. The phlebotomist in this position collects blood, urine, stool, and sputum specimens from pediatric patients in an ambulatory setting, as ordered by healthcare providers, for use in performing diagnostic or prognostic tests and provides related clerical, transporting, and non-technical support to the laboratory. Job Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or equivalent and completion of phlebotomy training program including significant time spent in a clinical rotation. Certification as ASCP (PBT), NHA (CPT), RPT (AMT) or equivalent required, or must be completed in the first year of employment;OR * One year of college level psychology, communications, or science course work plus 1 year of dedicated phlebotomy experience/training in a clinical laboratory. Certification as ASCP (PBT), NHA (CPT), RPT (AMT) or equivalent required, or must be completed in the first year of employment. * Strong ability to work in a team; demonstrated organizational skills; demonstrated problem solving skills; demonstrated communication skills both interpersonal and conflict resolution including fluency in oral and written English; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary setting; intermediate computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use the Electronic Health Record information and tools. * Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period. Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking. Able to lift 35 lbs.
