This position will be located at 15210 NE Miley Road, Aurora, Oregon 97002. The Yang Lab is seeking up to two (2) students to assist several blueberry research projects in data collection and experimental studies. This position will support research projects focused on management of blueberry rootstock plot, and taking care of clonal plant materials in the greenhouse and hoop house. Summer work also will involve machinal harvesting of blueberries and spotted wing drosophila management research. Some work with insect pest such as spotted wing drosophila may be required. There could be the opportunity to continue the position on a part-time basis into the 2018-2019 academic year. -Position Duties -50% Assisting with research experiments in the field, recording data outdoors, in a greenhouse, or in the laboratory. 45% Taking care clonal plant materials including potting, watering, and measuring plant diameters and height. 5% Insect sample collection and trap counting. Occasional travel may be required to field sites within the Willamette Valley. -Minimum Qualifications -Additional Required Qualifications -Applicants must be a current student at an accredited university or college studying for at least 6 academic credits, with good academic standing (minimum 2.0GPA) or full time high school student. Must be at least 18 year of age Willing to work in experimental and commercial blueberry fields, and to handle spotted wing drosophila samples. Demonstrated ability to follow directions and maintain organized records Perform assigned tasks without close supervision Capable of working outside and standing/walking for extended periods of time. Ability to lift 25 lbs Attention to detail This position may require driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid drivers license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as perOSUStandard 576-056-0000 et seq.NOTE: Only needed if student will be drivingOSUvehicles. Student must be 18 years old and pass theDMVcheckBEFOREthey can start work. -Preferred (Special) Qualifications -Background in horticulture, plant and environmental science, botany or crop science. Prior experience with maintaining plants in a greenhouse. Experience with data entry and management of research data. -Working Conditions / Work Schedule -Student Employee will be expected to work 35-40 hours per week during summer terms. The work schedule will include weekday hours to be agreed upon between employer and student. Occasionally, a field day may require a start time of 7:30 am or earlier.
