    Job Description

    The Department of Film, Television, & Theatre (FTT) is seeking a creative and organized Outreach Specialist to lead the department’s marketing, communications, and community engagement efforts. FTT produces a wide range of public-facing events each year—including theatre productions, film festivals, workshops, and lectures—and is looking for a professional who can expand its visibility, strengthen recruitment, and build meaningful connections with campus and community audiences.

    About the Position:

    The Outreach Specialist independently manages all departmental outreach initiatives, with primary responsibility for marketing, event coordination, communications, and the development of new outreach activities. This position plays a central role in promoting departmental programs, increasing visibility of public events, and recruiting prospective students to the FTT major.

    The Outreach Specialist serves as the primary liaison between the department and campus communications channels, community arts organizations, and external media outlets. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Theatre Publicity Management

    • Manage publicity and promotion of all theatre-related events in cooperation with the FTT Theatre Committee, including mainstage productions, student theatre, festivals, auditions, and special performances
    • Write and distribute publicity through campus email lists, calendars, websites, and social media
    • Coordinate with the Communications Office and performance venues as appropriate
    • Oversee student assistant design work
    • Supervise design, printing, and distribution of posters and fliers
    • Market events on and off campus through print, radio, and digital media
    • Coordinate ticketing information and ensure online availability
    • Write press releases and attend staff and production meetings
    • Manage theatre email lists, archival recordings, photography, and the department script library

    Department Events Publicity Management

    • Manage publicity and logistics for guest lectures, workshops, conferences, book launches, symposia, and related receptions in cooperation with the Department Chair and faculty
    • Write and disseminate promotional content across campus communication channels
    • Coordinate design, printing, and distribution of promotional materials
    • Provide event support and attend planning meetings

    Departmental Communications Channels Management

    • Maintain and update departmental and archival websites
    • Produce and distribute the bi-weekly newsletter
    • Manage digital signage, social media platforms, and online calendar listings

    Community Outreach

    • Develop and implement outreach strategies aligned with departmental goals
    • Build partnerships with regional schools, arts organizations, and community entities
    • Expand public engagement initiatives and collaborative opportunities

    Recruitment of New Majors

    • Plan and manage promotional and recruitment events for prospective students (majors nights, orientations, campus showcases, etc.)
    • Develop strategies to inform and recruit students to the FTT major
    • Advise FTT Student Ambassadors, hold monthly meetings, oversee elections, and delegate tabling and event duties.

    Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • 3–4 years of relevant experience

    Skills:

    • Experience in public relations, marketing, fundraising, arts administration, or related outreach fields
    • Background in an academic department or nonprofit arts organization preferred
    • Friendly, welcoming, and professional demeanor
    • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize competing deadlines
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading
    • Graphic design proficiency
    • Advanced computer literacy; experience with standard design and publishing software such as Adobe Creative Suite
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
    • Commitment to confidentiality due to exposure to sensitive information
