    Communications Intern -Campus/Location: -University Park CampusDate Announced: -01/02/2019Date Closing: -open until filledJob Number: -84849Work Unit: -College of EngineeringDepartment: -Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering -Description The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) at Penn State is seeking a student Communications Intern to fill a part-time, writing intensive position that will support the departments Service Enterprise Engineering (SEE 360) initiative. The student will be asked to work approximately 10-15 hours per week, which may include some evening and weekend hours at activities and events. Responsibilities will include: researching and writing news releases, research stories, research stories and media alerts; updating a distribution list; maintaining the initiatives website (in development); taking photos; serving as a liaison to SEE Advisory Board; and assisting in special events. The Intern will report to the associate director of SEE 360 for content oversight and the IME communications strategist for editorial and design oversight. The ideal candidate should have strong writing, reporting and interviewing skills and be curious about activities related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, particularly the service sector. The applicant must be dependable, flexible and organized. The Intern must demonstrate attention to detail and possess solid oral communication skills. The internship is open to rising juniors and seniors, as well as graduate students, majoring in journalism, public relations, or related field. Applicants must have, at the very least, successfully completed the writing course COMM 260W and be somewhat familiar with content management systems (Wordpress, Drupal, etc.). Courses in advanced writing and editing and photography are desirable. Experience with photo editing and publication layout software (Adobe InDesign) would be helpful. This paid internship is for Spring 2019 with an excellent possibility of re-funding beyond the Spring semester. Students may alternatively take the internship for credit.
