    ANNUAL GIVING 

    Annual Giving at Boston University is simple. Each year, alumni, students, parents, and friends choose to support everything from softballs to software at BU. These gifts are then deployed to fund research, provide emergency student assistance, pay for travel to academic conferences, and lots more throughout the year. This role, the Marketing Data Analyst, will directly assist the Annual Giving program at Boston University by conducting deep data analyses on trends and patterns relating to annual giving and annual giving programs.

     

    JOB SCOPE

    Reporting to the Associate Director of Annual Giving, Direct Marketing, the Marketing Data Analyst plays a significant role in the management and analysis of information in support of the university's annual giving, alumni engagement, and development efforts. The incumbent will work with other members of DAR and the university's various schools, colleges, and units to plan direct marketing efforts, leverage data insights, and evaluate marketing campaigns, with the ultimate goal of increasing alumni participation, annual fund revenue, and engagement.

     

    • Develop and implement prospect and donor segmentation plans to support donor acquisition, renewal, and upgrade activity, including spearheading analysis and advising on campaigns to drive donors through giving pipeline, from donor to leadership donor and beyond.

    • Partner with alumni relations and major gifts to seek out new opportunities to drive revenue and donor counts through collaborative data projects.

    • Evaluate giving performance, trends, and opportunities within specific constituencies, segments, projects, and programs to make actionable and evidence-based recommendations to programs, units, and project managers.

    • Manage current, and create new, segments and selections for annual giving marketing efforts as well as evaluate and implement specific appeal strategies to increase effectiveness of overall integrated marketing calendar for annual giving and engagement.

    • Coordinate the consistent use of constituent data across multiple direct marketing channels, to support a fully integrated marketing approach across mail, email, Telefund, and social, as well as leverage email marketing and online giving data to retarget appeals to potential donors based on online behavior.

    • Manage the bi-annual team donor blitz to strategically target lapsed donor populations for renewal at critical times. Conducting proactive research and analysis to inform annual giving strategy, including data mining, predictive modeling, A/B testing, benchmarking, and focus groups, this role will lead efforts to extract value from social media using available tools and systems, to turn insights into appeals.

    • Create direct marketing segments using predictive modeling and A/B testing to identify strong affinity groups and increase appeal efficacy. Monitoring and sharing industry best practices and trends related to annual giving, development, and alumni relations as well as private sector marketing trends, as well as establishing and maintaining scalable processes that ensure best practices in data integrity and cross-functional team data management.

    • Create best practices documentation and training for data review, usage, reporting requests, and database use for direct marketing, to provide analytical counsel to a variety of end users, technical staff, and DAR colleagues and offer clear communication and reporting using high-end analytics.

    • Serve as the annual giving liaison to external DAR teams such as DAR Applications and Gifts and Records, as it pertains to reporting, data integrity, and systems issues, and coordinate annual, monthly, and weekly data files and reports for annual giving team and DAR leadership.

    • Strong computer, organizational and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to prioritize the workload.
