  • Responsibilities

    Research Specialist-CTE Center/Neurology This position requires the application of technical and analytical skills, subject area of knowledge, and excellent organization and communication skills to complete a variety of tasks across disciplines with limited supervision. Responsibilities include coordinating brain tissue requests, performing brain dissections and collecting brain samples, and cutting and staining brain tissue for immunohistochemical analyses. The incumbent will assist with incoming/outgoing material transfer requests. The incumbent oversees a larger organizational project to process the large volume of incoming cases. To this end, the incumbent works with our data-core team to create specimen-tracking databases, trains and manages interns and provides training and oversight to a work group of research assistants who assist with brain tissue dissections and processing tissue. The incumbent is involved in several collaborations with our Brain Bank team and will assist with manuscript preparation

    Required Skills

    Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience or a related field. Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience. Proficient with MS office applications, database systems and PubMed. Excellent English communication skills both oral and written. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information. Special Requirements a. Occasional travel between Boston University School of Medicine and the VA Healthcare Systems (Jamaica Plain and Bedford); access to transportation recommended. b. Occasional rotating weekend on-call/beeper coverage on an as needed basis. This position involves handling human biological specimens and may require relevant biosafety training and vaccination compliance per institutional policy.
