    DATES OF EMPLOYMENT: late May through late August, 2021

     

    Ravinia Festival seeks energetic and dedicated staff for its summer music program, the Ravinia Steans Music Institute. RSMI offers employees the unique opportunity to participate in many aspects of performance production while developing relationships with the fellows and faculty in residence at the Institute. The fellows are young professional musicians at the beginning of their careers and the faculty includes Ravinia performers and world-renowned musicians. These positions are highly coveted, and many past RSMI employees have gone on to obtain full-time employment with major arts organizations.

    Production Assistant is a time-intensive position including work during nights and weekends. This position reports to RSMI’s Operations Manager, and works closely with the Director, Artistic Coordinator and other RSMI staff to perform all aspects of RSMI’s daily operations, including:

    • Artist transportation & hospitality
    • Responding to and prioritizing artist requests
    • Meal orders and pick-up
    • Rehearsal video and audio recording and processing (no experience required)
    • Master class and concert stage management and backstage duties
    • Master class and concert program production
    • Maintaining building organization & inventory
    • Monitoring upkeep on Ravinia-owned houses
    • General office work
    • Other duties as assigned

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

    • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team and independently
    • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
    • Must follow instructions and procedures accurately; detail-oriented
    • Flexibility and creativity in the face of challenges
    • Punctuality and ability to work outside of normal business hours
    • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office and superior word-processing skills
    • Clean driving record (must be submitted with application)
    • Must have or be able to establish either a permanent or summer residence in the greater Chicago area

     

    IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO OFFER SOME OF THE FOLLOWING SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE:

    • Excellent customer service or residence assistant experience
    • Knowledge of the musical repertoire studied at RSMI, particularly instrumental chamber music and art song
    • Knowledge of sound and/or video recording
    • Stage management and lighting experience
    • Knowledge of Chicago attractions, roadways, and public transportation

     

    COMPENSATION: $13/hour; 25 to 45 hours per week with opportunity for overtime (paid at time and a half). This position may be submitted for internship course credit. Monthly cellphone stipend.
