    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Development Intern, Ravinia Steans Music Institute (RSMI), provides support to the Development Department at Ravinia as an important member of the Major Gifts team. This position assists with administrative duties related to Ravinia Steans Music Institute, including acknowledgment letters, donor research, appeals, and provides exceptional customer services to Ravinia’s portfolio of Ravinia Steans Music Institute (RSMI) donors. Additionally, during Ravinia’s summer season, this person plays an important role in communicating with RSMI donors and in planning and executing sponsor and donor stewardship opportunities specific to RSMI. The internship offers an opportunity to gain valuable experience in special project fundraising for a highly respected non-profit arts organization.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Serve as a primary point of contact for RSMI donors, providing a high level of customer service when handling donors ticketing, parking, dining or other requests.
    • Communicate directly with RSMI fellowship donors when RSMI Fellows are performing in various concerts throughout the summer.
    • Assist in RSMI Fellowship tracking and fellowship research project, ensuring accuracy of fellowship listings in the RSMI program magazine and accurate historical records of giving.
    • Learn and utilize Ravinia’s three software platforms to execute reserving, selling, and exchanging tickets; placing dining reservation requests; processing donations; and tracking waitlists.
    • Draft donor correspondence, prepare mailing materials including mail merges from existing files, format and print letters, envelopes and mailing labels.
    • Provide support for donor benefits distribution and facilitate gift acknowledgment process as needed.
    • Develop creative materials, generate correspondence, track guest attendance and assist in implementing RSMI stewardship events and opportunities.
    • Act as an onsite donor resource at the Freehling Room (Ravinia’s private donor dining facility), and other Ravinia restaurants during concert evenings throughout the summer.
    • Support Development team with concert duty coverage throughout the summer.
    • Assist with execution of the Music Matters Fundraiser benefit (date to be determined) in May of 2022.
    • Assist with execution of the Women’s Board Gala benefit (date to be determined) most likely in July of 2022.
    • Special projects and other duties as assigned, including providing administrative support for Development department, for RSMI administration, volunteer groups and Donor Concierge Service as needed.
    • Provide front desk/reception support when necessary.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Google Docs.
    • Experience working in a database, such as Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Access or otherwise is a plus

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Some college or higher preferred
    • Experience in events, administrative or customer service position preferred

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • This is a seasonal full-time, valued position that contributes heavily to the success of RSMI and the Major Gifts team. Applicant must be prepared to dedicate their summer to working at Ravinia and, in turn, will receive un-paralleled work experience at a world-renowned arts institution.
    • Required to work many evenings and weekends in the late spring and summer months as assigned by the Associate Director of Development and/or Manager Major Gifts. At times, this position is requested to work overtime.
