    The Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) program, at the NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing, is looking for a graduate research assistant to manage data collection and analysis activities for a portfolio of program implementation surveys.

    NICHE offers members clinical practice and program evaluation surveys to assess workforce competencies and organizational capacity to promote nurse-led care for older adults.

    The Data Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day data collection and management activities for a portfolio of surveys for the NICHE program.

    The NICHE survey portfolio includes:

    • Geriatric Institutional Assessment Profile (GIAP) (acute care version) is an online survey administered three times a year to assess nursing staff’s knowledge and attitudes for caring for older adults;

    • Year 1 Program Implementation Survey is completed by members at the end of the first year in the NICHE program to evaluate program implementation. Surveys are customized for the acute care and long term care programs.

    • Member Recognition Portfolio and Survey are completed by members to evaluate the depth and breadth of NICHE program implementation on participating nursing units.

    Responsibilities and duties:

    • Survey Management. Oversee the coordination and implementation of the survey protocols (online and mailed formats) to assess practice competencies and program implementation at NICHE member sites (hospitals and nursing homes).
    • Communicate with representatives from participating sites to answer questions and gather information.
    • Manage sampling protocol in collaboration with an external survey management group at Cornell University.
    • Monitor survey response rates, work with representatives at participating sites to improve response rates, trouble shoot survey administration issues as they arise.
    • Develop survey protocols. Create tools to facilitate data collection at participating sites. Draft correspondence such as IRB documents and marketing sheets explaining the goals and objectives of the different surveys.
    • Develop toolkits using a variety of communication methods (fliers, videos, powerpoint presentations, worksheets, etc,) for front line nurses to promote survey participation. Develop survey codebooks and data dictionaries for the individual surveys.
    • Data management and analysis. Handle data cleaning and management activities. Work with senior statistician and research team to review and prepare data for analyzes, conduct descriptive analyses, write code using the R statistical language to create customized reports of survey results for participating sites.
    • Participate in team meetings to develop data analysis strategies to create member benchmarking reports and peer reviewed journal articles.

  • Qualifications
    • Master’s level course work in survey design, data management, and statistics
    • Working knowledge of common on-line survey platforms and software packages including Qualtrics, Microsoft Excel and the R Statistical Language
    • Organized and detail-oriented
    • Able to work independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary research team
    • Knowledge of nursing services and healthcare organizations a plus
