Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Internet, Intranet and E-mail applications. Student Member of SHRM a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Must have the ability to work independently and to implement effective decision-making skills towards the completion of all assigned duties and responsibilities. The ability to maintain personnel information confidential is required. Must have the ability work efficiently under pressure. The Human Resources Intern will have the opportunity to learn about the field of human resources by performing a variety of highly responsible duties across all HR disciplines with a dynamic team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: benefits, compliance, recruiting, and onboarding/orientation. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will learn how to take skills acquired in school related to their particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. The intern will gain a better understanding of the role that Human Resources can play in an educational setting, and be better prepared to work in the arena of human resources. The candidate will also have opportunities to network with other departments and organizations. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:The Human Resources Intern will learn the practical application of: Assisting Health and Welfare Human Resources Specialists with Family Medical Leave, retirement, wellness, open enrollment and renewal, etc.; the importance of employment law and compliance, especially regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files, and forms management; assisting in the accurate entry of data into Human Resources systems throughout the employee lifecycle; the interrelationship of Human Resources and Finance from onboarding to termination; assisting with new hire orientations and participate in job fairs and transfer fairs; support training and development objectives in alignment with and support of strategic initiatives, goals and objectives. Demonstrates high quality customer service to individuals who call or walk-in. Interact and communicate positively and productively across teams within the organization and the Human Resources department. Formats, type confidential and general correspondence, memorandums, reports and statistical data. Maintains employee confidence and protects operations by keeping personnel data confidential. Performs other related duties as assigned. GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:Performs administrative work in the coordination and supervision of human resources activities. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking and light lifting up to 10 pounds. Effective verbal and written communication skills for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
