Clinical Teaching Fellow - Internal Medicine Foundations Location US-FL-Miramar Job ID 2018-106203 Institution Ross University School of Medicine Department Clinical Employment Type Regular Full-Time FLSA Status U.S. - Exempt Opportunity at a Glance The Role As a Clinical Teaching Fellow for Internal Medicine Foundations, you will assist program faculty and staff in all areas of IMF instruction, administration and other activities relating to the operation of the Internal Medicine Foundations (IMF) clinical clerkship in Miramar, FL. Reporting directly to the Assistant Director, the Clinical Teaching Fellow(s) works closely with all faculty, staff, and other operational stakeholders to achieve the goals of the clerkship. This includes, but are not limited to, instructing students on Physical Examination techniques, providing guidance on history-taking, writing SOAP notes and H&Ps, designing and facilitating high fidelity simulation and procedural skills, conducting Mock CS OSCE sessions, test question design, proctoring exams, teaching ACLS and BLS and participating in the grading process as directed. Clinical Teaching Fellows will spend the majority of their time instructing students in small group sessions and working as a team to carry out the clerkship curriculum. During breaks between IMF clerkships, you will be assigned projects for continual improvement on the delivery of the clerkship curriculum under the instruction of the Director of IMF. The Team Internal Medicine Foundations (IMF): IMFs mission is to introduce students to the principles and practice of Internal Medicine and help students achieve a solid foundation in the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to succeed in subsequent core clinical clerkships and in the USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) and Clinical Knowledge (CK) exams. We are designed to provide physician-supervised, hands-on training with patients at affiliated hospitals and ambulatory clinics. Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities The ideal applicant should be able to engage, mentor, and teach a diverse student body, as well as, work closely and cohesively with other Clinical Teaching Fellows as a team under the instruction and supervision of the Director, Assistant Director, and Simulation Manager. To this aim, he/she must possess excellent teaching, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and public speaking skills. It is also important the Clinical Teaching Fellow be self-directed and to work effectively as a member of the IMF team. Strong candidates for this role should be motivated by working on complex, ever-evolving initiatives that are student driven. Requirements/Skills Assist with IMF instruction: teach OSCE/standardized patient formative and summative exercises, simulation and skills lab sessions, provide guidance on history-taking, write-ups for H&P and SOAP notes Ability to design test questions and proctor exams, which may provide technical support throughout the exam process Serve as mentors to a cohort of students, by maintaining close communication with each student and providing guidance in all aspects of their performance Available Monday through Friday from 7 AM to 7 PM, as well as evenings and weekends as assigned Attend training sessions to become competent in teaching and assessment Participation in RUSM Mock CS examination sessions (weekend travel required) Assists the Director, Assistant, and Simulation Manager with implementing new or revised clerkship goals and objectives that are essential for successful operations Works independently and collaboratively with a team by developing and cultivating relationships and networks in order to achieve results Creates student academic resources with Director, Assistant Director, Simulation Manager to enhance the student experience, such as, presentations, videos, and electronics resources Presents to large groups of students, as well as to small group settings among colleagues Acts as a main point of contact for students via to phone and email.
