    SMU-Academic Support Coordinator Date : July 30, 2018 Department : Student Services Type : Staff Email : Telephone : Visit Taleo Link Pay Rate : Hours : Cost Center : 8042 Active : Active Description : Job Summary: The Academic Support Coordinator will develop and implement programs to enhance student learning and teach academic success strategies unique to Samuel Merritt University's health science education environment. The Coordinator will organize and lead the Peer Tutoring Program on assigned campuses, consult with the academic departments and promote tutoring among students and faculty, develop and lead workshops and seminars that assist health science students to successfully learn, integrate, and apply complex material into the classroom and clinical setting, and counsel students to assess learning challenges and to assist with developing new learning strategies and techniques. Other duties include providing writing coaching for students across all programs, both in-person and remotely. Education and/or Experience: Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in education, healthcare, counseling or related field; Masters preferred; three to four years of providing students with academic support, preferably in higher education; ability to develop training programs for students; experience in positions of increased responsibility in an academic and teaching environment; excellent communication skills; ability to function in an atmosphere of frequently changing priorities; must exhibit tact, discretion, problem solving skills and the ability to work as a team player. Skills and Abilities: Ability to exchange or express ideas by means of the spoken word Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure and perform reconciliations Ability to create and conduct seminars and training workshops Communication skills required to quickly organize and communicate thoughts Skills in writing concise, logical and grammatically correct materials Ability to use personal computer Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Excellent attention to details Ability to handle multiple priorities Ability to travel to multiple campuses The University has an institution-wide commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
