  • Responsibilities

    Hands-On Technology Education, LLC (HOTE) seeks to provide safe, engaging, and balanced STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) activities for K-12 students with our signature Technology Adventure Themes & Core STEAM curriculum (handsontecheducation.com).

    The successful after-school program staff candidate will facilitate and/or assist STEAM-based activities on behalf of HOTE. The candidate will bring enthusiasm for working with students, bring experience in facilitating or completing introductory level STEAM projects for the K-12 demographic and be excited about training for and implementing some or all of HOTE Technology Adventure Themes & Core STEAM curriculum (handsontecheducation.com).

    Program Locations:

    • School Sites, Youth Organizations, & Public Libraries throughout San Diego which contract HOTE for STEAM Programming workshops.

    Program Dates/Times:

    • Fall 2022 (October 2022 - December 2022) with optional continuation for Winter 2023 and Spring 2023 semesters.
    • Weekday Shifts & Weekend Shifts Available based on applicant availability

    Total Working Hours (Per Week):

    • Up to 20 hours per week depending on availability of instructor (i.e. days of the week worked) and program availability.
    • Additional Training Hours are offered as part of onboarding for new staff members.Weekday Working Hours:

    Shifts:

    • If hired for a weekday program, staff member must commit to working at least 2 days of the week between Monday and Friday.

    Weekday Shifts are typically in the afternoon between 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Classes typically run from 1-2 hours.

    • Weekend Shifts are typically in the morning between 10 AM - 2 PM (Actual time varies on request of youth organization)

    Training:

    • Core Training tasks are compensated upon hire.
    • Prior to program start, instructors will receive training in our Core STEAM curriculum (Computer Science & Electrical Engineering concepts) as well as the specific Technology Adventure Theme needed for the program allocated to.
    • Satisfactory completion of training is required for all instructional staff.
  • Qualifications
    • One of the following: (1) Valid teaching certification/credential at the K-12 levels, (2) Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Psychology or a Science-related field, and/or (3) Current collegiate student with completed coursework in Education, Psychology or a Science-related field

    • Willingness and enthusiasm to be trained to facilitate introductory workshops in Technology Adventure Themes: Virtual Reality, Sustainable Agriculture, Robotics, e-Sports, Tech Entrepreneurship, etc.

    • Ability to work & collaborate efficiently via Google Online Suite: Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.

  • Desired skills
    • Experience completing introductory STEAM projects targeted for the elementary, middle, or high-school levels.

    • Experience teaching/leading school-aged children in hands-on activities

    • [Plus] Prior experience in Core STEAM activities: Coding (Computer Science), Science, or Engineering
