Interns and Post-Bar Clerkships - Fresno County Public Defenders Office (Fresno) The Fresno County Public Defenders Office currently has openings for 2L, 3L, and 4L interns and post-bar clerkships for the spring, summer and fall of 2019. The Fresno County Public Defenders Office has been in operation for more than 50 years. The mission of the Public Defenders Office is to vigorously protect and defend the rights of indigent clients as guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Our goal is to provide full and fair legal representation with respect and compassion for all. Whether we are public defenders, paralegals, investigators, support staff, or social workers, we are all warriors against social injustice and inequality. We work hard and advocate for people in order to restore and affirm their human dignity and values, and to vindicate their legal and human rights. As an intern or a post-bar extern at the Fresno County Public Defenders Office, you will be working with an attorney and have the ability to assist in the juvenile, misdemeanor, felony and/or major crimes units in and outside of court. Some of the tasks that you will handle if you are an intern include but are not limited to research, assisting with client intake information in court, reviewing and providing summaries of police reports, various types of records, body camera video, 911 and dispatch calls. In addition, if you are a certified law student or post-bar extern, you can also assist in writing and arguing motions, arraigning clients, and participating with attorneys in jury and court trials. In order to be a post-bar extern, you must have graduated from law school and be awaiting bar results.
