    Job Description

    Sandhills Community College seeks applications for a full-time Nursing Instructor. This position is for a registered nurse who is a nurse educator, responsible for guiding pre-licensure nursing students’ learning experiences to achieve the objectives of the Associate Degree Nursing program.  Curriculum faculty guide and direct the learning experiences of students through knowledge, skills, and motivation.  Members of the faculty agree to be accessible to students, other faculty, staff, and to those making inquiry to the College, and to assume a fair share of the total workload of the College as may be assigned.  Interviews for the position will include a teaching demonstration and an oral/written assessment conducted in a computer environment.  

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Meets required academic credentials to teach at the ADN program level.
      • Possess a graduate degree with a major in nursing from an accredited institution. Will consider applicants within 6 months of graduation. 
      • Meets North Carolina Board of Nursing requirements for preparation in teaching learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation appropriate to assignment. (21NCAC 36.0318 (3) Faculty)
    • Meets requirements as specified by the clinical agencies (immunizations, orientations, etc.) and AHA BLS.
    • Possesses a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.  
    • Has a minimum of two calendar years or equivalent of full-time experience in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
    • Demonstrates motivation, initiative, & high degree of independence, with extensive knowledge of nursing and commitment to evidence-based best practice.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC TO THE ADN PROGRAM:

    • Models and upholds professional nursing standards to include teamwork, scholarship, and collegiality.
    • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication and ability to facilitate learning of concepts related to the individual, nursing and healthcare.
    • Facilitates student learning in the classroom, simulation, labs, and clinical settings.
    • Adapts to various modalities of teaching to include online, hybrid or traditional methods utilizing the College’s current web-based delivery platform.
    • Participates in student recruitment and retention efforts.
    • Participates in program and curriculum review, revision and development.
    • Demonstrates ability to lead a nursing course and chair a committee within the ADN program.   
    • Determines key issues in student/academic situations and takes appropriate steps.
    • Maintains flexibility, open-mindedness, and adapts to change.
    • Maintains all qualifications listed above.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Teaching experience, preceptor experience or leadership experience.
