At Success Academy, non-academic subjects aren’t ‘extra’ but essential. Scholar Talent and electives serve as critical, creative outlets for scholars to explore and develop their passions and talents in chess, debate, visual and performing arts. We expect Scholar Talent teachers to be masters of their craft and share their passion, talent and experience in the classroom.
Scholar Talent teachers focus on one specific content area: chess, debate, visual arts, dance, music or theater. Teachers collaborate across our network of schools to build world-class programs within their schools while investing the community in the vital role of the arts in education. They also engage in training with teachers and leaders across the network to benefit in targeted feedback and professional development related to their specific content area.

They invest the community in the vital role of public speaking and debate in education. Debate teachers engage students with challenging material that is relevant to their lives and interests and prepare scholars to compete in rigorous city, state, and national competitions.

Art teachers build a safe and joyful classroom culture in which scholars develop a love for art. They engage students in the creative process and foster their talents, while deepening their knowledge and understanding of art, design, and art history.

About this Role:
Chess teachers build a classroom culture in which scholars develop a love for chess and enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They teach a rigorous chess curriculum to scholars that begins with chess basics and progresses to checkmate patterns and tactics. Chess teachers will coach and develop a high-performing team of scholars to compete in city, state, and national chess tournaments. In addition, they support our high performing competitive teams by coaching at tournaments at least 12 Saturdays per school year.
