This position is located in Budapest
The School Counselor serves to assist students who are dealing with various emotional and social issues, and supports the classroom teachers and other staff members as they work with these students.
Duties:
Meet with students who are struggling with emotional/social issues at school or at home
Support the authority and role of the parents, and keep them appropriately informed regarding issues involving their children
Keep appropriate written records of meetings with students, etc., while appropriately protecting confidentiality
Work cooperatively with GLPs, classroom teachers, and with other school staff
Keep GLPs and classroom teachers appropriately informed regarding issues with their students
Create opportunities to be involved in various aspects of school life, including things like classroom visits, leading special workshops with students, subbing for teachers, etc., in order to build trust and foster relationships with the students
Provide advice, consultation, training, and encouragement to teachers and other staff members as needed, including helping them be aware of “warning signs” of potential problems that students may be experiencing (neglect, abuse, suicidal thoughts, etc.)
Follows the procedures outlined in the Staff Handbook regarding the reporting of any suspected abuse, etc., and helps the school administration deal with these issues.
Makes referrals to other qualified counseling personnel (as available) when necessary.
Accountability:
The School Counselor works closely with the GLPs but reports to the Director, and will receive an annual performance review.
