The Masakhane Center is seeking passionate, motivated people to join our education team! Sexuality Educators work in the Newark, NJ community providing much needed sex positive education to the community. Sexuality Educators receive extensive training on a variety of sexuality topics and workshop facilitation techniques. While this internship position is unpaid, all educators are given real world, hands-on experience in the non-profit world and sex education field, and the responsibility to manage substantive projects.
Facilitate sexuality workshops at local schools and community-based organizations.
Work with youth to create tailor-made sexuality education programs for their programs.
Create and execute a significant project that utilizes current skills and interests, and are in line with Masakhane’s needs.
Assist in social media planning and daily posting.
Assist in street outreach and health fairs, as needed.
Assist in the occasional planning and execution of special events.
Passion for sexuality education!
Strong advocate for sex positive education, racial and reproductive justice, and gender and sexual minority rights.
Demonstrated ability to work with individuals and groups of varying backgrounds.
Ability to travel throughout Newark. Living in or around Newark is a plus but not a requirement.
Excellent organizational, time management, writing, and interpersonal communication skills.
Responsible, creative, reliable and energetic.
Strong attention to detail.
We prefer our interns to use this as part of a credit bearing course, but those not seeking credit as also encouraged to apply.
All interns are required to work between 20 and 40 hours per week. All interns must be available to work the following dates:
SUMMER INTERNSHIP
May 31, 2016 to September 9, 2016*
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm
Fridays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Occasionally (once a month) on Saturday or Sunday
*We keep a couple of slots open for those quailed interns that need to complete their internship earlier. All interns, must be able to work through August 19, 2016.
Masakhane is a youth-driven organization promoting happy, healthy outlooks on sex and sexuality. We achieve this through a variety of interactive and innovative sex education programs.
We want to make sexuality education a community experience. Bringing it to young people, as well as adults. Providing workshops in schools, youth organizations, drug and alcohol treatment centers, parent groups, shelters, and lots of other places.
