    The Academic Success Coordinator is a professional position that reports to the Associate Director of Academic Success & Accessibility to provide strategic and transformational leadership in the area of academic excellence.  The Coordinator will directly oversee the daily operation of our vibrant, innovative, and collaborative learning space: the Hollis Family Student Success Center.  The Coordinator will carry out campus-wide academic support programs (on the DeLand campus) to champion student success, particularly by facilitating dynamic and impactful content-based Tutoring and SPI (Stetson Peer Instruction) programs, as well as, the Success Coaching program focused on the continued development of universal academic skills (e.g. time management, test preparation, active reading).  The Academic Success Coordinator will work individually and in groups with students, tutors, SPIs, and Peer Success Coaches to empower those students to be independent, successful, and confident learners and teachers.  As part of a collaborative and connected university, the Coordinator works synergistically with other departments within Campus Life and Student Success (CLaSS), the university in its entirety, and faculty and academic leaders from all of Stetson’s educational programs in the development and implementation of programs to challenge and support students to Go Beyond™.    

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

     

    • Lead a dynamic team of high achieving student tutors, SPIs (Stetson Peer Instructors), and Peer Success Coaches in providing quality academic support for the Stetson student body
    • Supervise graduate assistant (Success Specialist) in the development and implementation of Success Coaching program. 
    • Lead this team by planning and implementing learning-outcome based professional development; providing affirmative, constructive, and timely feedback; facilitating reflection and team building; and celebrating victories and appreciating service to the institution
    • Collect and analyze data and assessment of service usage, needs, and effectiveness; use gathered data to propose and maintain a strategically-minded budget to fund appropriate services
    • Advertise all academic support opportunities to the Stetson student body
    • Collaborate with faculty experts in subject areas to hire and evaluate tutors and SPIs  
    • Observe tutoring and SPI sessions to provide support, live supervision, and concrete feedback to staff
    • Oversee all functions of the Hollis Family Student Success Center space, including (but not limited to) creating schedules for tutors, SPIs and Success Coaches, overseeing front desk student employees, and creating other opportunities for student learning within space outside of regularly-offered services
    • Serve as an information resource for students, faculty, staff, and parents in matters related to tutoring, SPI, and general practices of academic success
    • Provide success coaching to students and present on skills and strategies for success at workshop sessions
    • Maintain confidential and accurate student records and prepare reports (e.g. course unsatisfactory grade and withdrawal reports)
    • Perform outreach efforts in response to student alerts within Stetson Student Success Collaborative (SSC)
    • Stay current on best practices and implementation methods for Institutions of Higher Education in the areas of tutoring and academic intervention/coaching
    • Research opportunities for grants and work collaboratively with the office of Corporate and Foundation Relations to apply for grants
    • Work with the Associate Director of Academic Success & Accessibility to facilitate and manage team outreach to students with deficient midterm grades
    • Serve as a New Hatter Advisor over the summer to assist with the scheduling and onboarding of incoming students
    • Collaborate with other members of the Academic Success team to develop and implement departmental initiatives. Attend and participate in division-wide CLaSS meetings and serve on a CLaSS committee
    • Periodically represent Academic Success at open house and other university events
    • Other duties as assigned

    MINIMUM EDUCATION:  Bachelor's degree; Master's degree and experience in a relevant filed is preferred

    Required Skills

    • Must have excellent computer skills and proficiency with main operating systems, such as the Microsoft Office 365; knowledge of EAB’s Student Success Collaborative (SSC) and Banner software is beneficial. 
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and demeanor in order to work well with University faculty, staff, students and the public
    • Ability to be flexible in one’s work assignments
    • Communicate clearly and concisely both in writing and oral presentations
    • Good organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision, as well as effectively in a team
    • Understand confidentiality of all information within the university
    • Additional preferred qualifications include the ability to gather and interpret available data to make data-driven decisions and experience working with data visualization software

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree and experience in a relevant field is preferred
    • Experience with managing budgets (experience working with endowments preferred)
