    Stetson University is seeking a dynamic individual to provide leadership to the Campus Life & Student Success (CLaSS) student affairs team as the Director of Student Counseling Services.

    Reporting to the Associate Vice President & Dean of Students and serving as a member of the CLaSS divisional leadership team, the Director will coordinate Student Counseling Services efforts, staffing and direction to provide appropriate mental health services to the student population as well as effective outreach to the campus community. Facilitates strategic direction and planning for Student Counseling Services and dynamic collaborative supervision to staff. Serves as the lead student advocate for mental health needs on campus.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinates Student Counseling Services efforts, staffing, planning and direction through supporting department’s vision and mission.
    • Serves as the voice for student mental health concerns throughout campus, while keeping in mind the holistic academic needs of college students.
    • Supervises an Outreach Coordinator/Counselor, a Training Coordinator/Counselor, a Multicultural Counselor, one additional full time Counselor, one additional part time Counselor and an administrative specialist. This is a total staff of 5.5 employees. Arranges for appropriate supervision of Graduate Counselors as needed. Provides support to counseling operations and one Counselor at Stetson Law Campus in Gulfport, Florida.
    • Manages department budget planning, balancing everyday needs and university goals.
    • Provides leadership to departmental assessment efforts, according to best practices based in learning outcomes and research.
    • Stays up to date on best practices in the fields of mental health overall and in college mental health specifically, through professional association affiliation and involvement.
    • Member of Campus Life and Student Success Leadership Team, working collaboratively across departments to best serve students.
    • Serves as spokesperson to campus community regarding mental health needs of campus. Develops reports and shares data regarding efforts of Student Counseling Services, while maintaining confidentiality.
    • Provides individual and group counseling and/or psychotherapy, assessment, crisis intervention.
    • Serves as backup for on-call services for all staff.
    • Develops and participates in outreach programs and activities.
    • Provides consultation services to student groups, faculty, and staff within the university.
    • Participates in research and/or data collection in accordance with the rules of the University’s IRB.
    • Serves as a member of HattersCare team, which is a Behavioral Intervention and Care team focused on support to students struggling the most at Stetson.
    • Develops and uses electronic programs and other tools to enhance the efficacy of the Student Counseling Services work. These may include but are not limited to: Titanium Schedule, OQ Assessments and dictation programs.
    • Supports and implements University and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Performs other assigned functions that contribute to the service offerings of Student Counseling Services and the academic mission of the institution.

    Required Skills

    • Demonstrate knowledge of principles of program development, consultation, outreach, developmental theories of the adolescent and adult, and be able to understand the person in the context of a diverse social and cultural milieu.
    • Be willing to serve as backup for Registered Intern Staff members on-call rotations and available to consult with all clinical staff with regards to on-call situations.
    • Acknowledge that while most of this position’s time is in the office during regular weekdays, some evenings and weekend workshops and outreach will be necessary.
    • Have personal attributes that enable the Director to facilitate effective interpersonal relationships and to communicate with a wide range of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
    • Possess a deep commitment to assisting college students in their transition to adulthood and to work cooperatively with the Student Counseling Services staff and CLaSS

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    • Requires some physical effort, i.e. some standing and walking, frequent light lifting (5-10 lbs); and manual dexterity in the operation of office equipment; extended periods of time at a keyboard; perceptual demands for color, sound, form, and depth; occasional and, at times, frequent hours outside the normal University schedule.

    Required Experience

    • Have at the minimum a master’s degree in counseling or a closely related discipline.
    • Be licensed to practice according to the regulations of the State of Florida or be eligible to become licensed prior to start date.
    • 7-10 years of clinical experience, with at least four years on college campuses. Be eligible to become Qualified Supervisors for LMHC, LMFT or LCSW in the state of Florida.
    • Have had appropriate course work at the graduate level or demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities in psychological assessment, theories of personality, abnormal psychology or psychopathology, human development, trauma informed care, learning theory, counseling theory, and/or other appropriate subjects.
    • Must have experience working with diverse client populations.

    Salary Grade : 8
