  • Responsibilities

    The Director of Library & Academic Support Services provides direction and overall leadership for the Library and Tutoring units with the goal of ensuring that its services, resources, and facilities remain responsive and relevant to the campus community. The Director is responsible for the organization, administration, budget management, and assessment and evaluation of the services, programs and activities of the Library and Tutoring units, as well as supervision of faculty and staff in these areas. The Director supports the Dean in additional Academic Support & Effectiveness areas, including assessment, accreditation, College grant processes, and faculty professional development.

     

    ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Library & Tutoring

    • Manage the Library and Tutoring departments in support of the College mission and in a manner consistent with College values and best practice within the professions, including but not limited to standards established by the American Library Association Division of Academic, College, and Research Libraries and the College Reading & Learning Association.
    • Develop, submit and monitor an annual budget proposal for operational units. Plan for meeting the equipment, supply and material needs of units.
    • Hire, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned faculty/staff and student workers in accordance with union contracts and College policies
    • Lead assessment of unit services, activities and resources to implement changes for continuous improvement of the Library & Tutoring units.
    • Prepare and complete reports required by College, state, and federal authorities
    • Research and adopt innovative practices related to unit areas, while remaining current in best practices, legislation, guidelines, and trends for services.
    • Identify professional development needs and provide opportunities by recommending budget and specific training for faculty and staff.
    • Represent the College on committees and in community partnerships related to assigned areas.
    • Participate in regional, state, and/or national committees or consortia relevant to the unit.
    • Support the Dean in copyright compliance and assure that College instructional and support services areas are well informed with regards to copyright law.
    • Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

    Accreditation & Effectiveness

    • Assist the Dean, Academic Support & Effectiveness with daily operations and assigned projects and processes in the Academic Support & Effectiveness Division.
    • Establish and maintain information infrastructure, processes, and systems to capture institutional documents and evidence required by the College’s accreditation mandates.
    • Assist in coordinating efforts, participants, and evidence required for the HLC accreditation and the ICCB recognition processes, annual updates, interim submissions, and with departmental accreditation efforts.
    • Assist in grant processes, research and submission development.
    • Assist with the collection and dissemination of data in support of Program Review and other quality improvement initiatives related to Library and Tutoring Services.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of faculty support materials such as handbooks, manuals, process maps, webpage and portal content related to Academic Support & Effectiveness unit functions.
    • Assist in the creation and delivery of professional development for faculty on topics related to Academic Support & Effectiveness unit functions.

    Required Skills

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Experience with ILS migration, project management, and renovation projects
    • Extensive knowledge and experience with contemporary library and learning resource practices and trends, including emerging technologies
    • Demonstrated understanding and experience with data-driven decision making for developing and refining processes and services
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently yet with a strong team orientation to develop effective working relationships with employees, staff, students, and the community partners
    • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
    • Commitment to and respect for diversity

    Required Experience

    • Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies from an American Library Association accredited institution
    • Three to five years of library or tutoring experience
    • Demonstrated progressive levels of leadership responsibility
