  • Responsibilities

    SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN

    Reporting to the Facilities manager with dotted line to EHS Manager, responsibilities include :

    WASTE WATER TREATMENT

    • Massachusetts grade 4 Industrial WWTP License needed to operate Metals & Non-Metals pre-treatment system
    • Operate and maintain waste water pumps, chemical feed systems, sludge settling, thickening and dewatering equipment, sand filtration and flow monitoring/recording equipment.
    • Perform quality control analysis on metals precipitation and neutralization process
    • Perform specified daily treatment/monthly discharge monitoring reports and annual sampling
    • Maintain inventories of treatment chemicals and consumable equipment.
    • Manage hazardous waste generated by waste water treatment.
    • Oversee internal pump station maintenance of waste water pumping to segregated waste water treatment system holding tanks.
    • Understanding charts and blue prints of waste water treatment collection system, both feed points and discharge points
    • On call after hours

    WATER TREATMENT – D.I WATER

    • Daily operations/Inspections of water treatment unit and chemicals
    • Operate and maintain De-Ionized water treatment system consisting of booster pump, water softener, brine tank, chemical injection, Reverse Osmosis (RO), Electro deionization machine (EDI), mixed beds, ultraviolet sterilization and TOC reduction.
    • Maintain inventories of chemicals/filters and consumable products
    • Prepare annual sampling of RO/EDI unit and discharge points
    • Perform quality control analysis of hardness/chlorine/conductivity/resistivity
    • Support to other departments on water usage/quality/issues/pm’s.

    GAS BOTTLE MANAGEMENT

    • Weekly inventory of gas usage throughout facility
    • Support/deliver/return/removal of gases to main accumulation storage area
    • Package/label and manage hazardous and inert gases used and generated through-out the facility
    • Familiarity with toxic/flammable/corrosive/Personal Inhalation hazard gases and knowledge of safety data sheets

    HAZARDOUS WASTE

    • Perform weekly hazardous waste Inspections/inventories
    • Perform quarterly accumulation results and annual reporting to EHS dept.
    • Knowledge of Satellite Accumulation Areas and Main Accumulation Storage Areas
    • Knowledge RCRA, Hazard Communication, Hazardous waste operations and emergency response (HAZWOPER) and DOT regulations
    • Universal waste management/weekly inspections
    • Maintain Spill kits and chemical spill supplies

     

    RECYCLING OPERATIONS

    • Assist EHS managers with all recycling opportunities
    • Knowledge of solid waste disposal/reclamation
    • Knowledge of Electronic waste recycling, metals recycling, paper & cardboard recycling, wood recycling
    • Support internal recycling locations and manage accordingly

    OTHER DUTIES

    • Provide classes on Industrial Fork Truck Training, Instructor training and certification required
    • Eye wash/Shower Inspections, ladder Inspections
    • Quarterly Storm Water Inspections/Sampling and reporting

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

    HS Diploma or equivalent

    3 - 5 years of EHS experience in a fast pace manufacturing/office environment.

    Certificate/Licenses/Special Requirements Preferred :

    • 8 Hour or 24 Hour HAZWOPER Training Preferred

    ADDITIONAL SKILLS

    • Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. ACAD a plus.
    • Building Management experience--Continuum preferred.
    • Ability to work some overtime as needed.
    • Good communication skills.
    • Ability to work from blueprints, drawing and rough sketches.
